Here I am still considering whether I need a HANDGUN. I consider the possibilities. What type of handgun would I choose. The pluses the minuses. Our local paper had a poll this week. (Coincidentally). Asking the question: Would you feel safer moving to a neighborhood where nobody was allowed to own a gun or a neighborhood where you could have a gun for your own protection? Where nobody was allowed to have a gun 16% Where you could have a gun Now this is still the same area I grew up in. The poll is still ongoing. But after one week 83.8% of the respondents voted, “Where you could have a gun”. Now I am not a firm believer in polls. They only reflect what the people who participate believe and not necessarily what the majority believe. I don’t have the statistics so I am only speculating. During the pre 20th Century era, Nearly everyone, it would appear, owned and carried a gun. I can’t say what the percentage of crime was committed by people using a gun. To accurately compare you would have to know both the total population and the number of crimes committed. Compared to the same statistics for today. I don’t count defending oneself as a crime. Nor the defense of others. We know there were criminals, there have always been criminals. We have always had mentally and emotionally unstable people. I tend to place criminals in these 2 categories. Of course we find the other category of LAZY. But, still they must somehow fit in these 2 categories. (MAYBE)? Now the question is how to tell if a potential gun owner falls into these two categories. You can only go by their past record. For the most part. We already filter out the ones known to be “off balance”. But what about the ones who are on the edge and could go either way? Or the person who already owns a gun and falls over the edge. We really don’t know. Like driving our car, motorcycle, , bicycle, or even walking; it is a risk we must take to preserve our right to own personal protection. The media, it seems, never report if the criminal is legally carrying a weapon or if it is illegally carried. I imagine some of them are. BUT, I am sure most of them are not. I realize there are some who merely collect guns. There are those who compete in contests, and there are those who only like to target shoot. One of our fun things to do was going to the local dump and shoot rats. That was both fun and beneficial. (although the many rats we killed were probably not much more than a blip on the rat population). We can’t do that anymore. I want to point out that at any time, any person can find a deadly weapon. PEOPLE are the real weapon, whether they use only their hands, a pillow can be a deadly weapon. According to some reports. Acid can be a weapon, poison, scissors, instruments intended for marking, (a sharp point makes a weapon), a baseball bat, even a sling shot, (David killed Goliath with one of them). Most of these are up close weapons, But one can convert a sling shot to propel arrows, for a more distant weaponry. I am still on the fence about gun control. I think we need some constraints, but as you see from the above paragraph, we need the same constraints on all things. Can we place selective controls, on GUNS, and not the other potential weapons? I invite you back next week for further developments, as I ponder the NEED FOR GUN CONTROL. Views: 134

GUN CONTROL: IS IT NEEDED? PART 1
I was raised on a farm and rural town. So Hunting was a natural thing. We planted our own garden, raised our own hogs, beef, sheep, chickens, etc. We had apple trees, cherry trees, and pear trees. We had Black Raspberry, Gooseberries, Black Berries, Blue Berries, Strawberry Bushes., and of course there was always a bountiful pick of mushrooms. A creek, (in our area it was pronounced CRICK), so plenty of fish to eat. We hunted rabbit, and squirrel, to supplement and vary our meat diet. We Churned our own butter, and canned what we could to get us through the winter. So, you see hunting was a natural thing for us. All my life I have been pretty much anti HANDGUN. I first fired a handgun at age 9. My best friends cousin, who was about 10-12 years older than us, took us out to an empty field and set up some tin cans, a let us shoot his Colt 45. I think that is what it was, to me it was just like the one the LONE RANGER used. Granted it was a treat, pretending to be a real western cowboy. But I could see no real reason to own one. My other time was when I was about 19. This time I was in the Military and had to qualify with the Military pistol, a gun I carried rarely. Ok. This I could see. Being the radio operator, it was not always practical for me to carry a rifle. But those times would be in battle or rioting conditions. But for an average citizen, I could still see no reason for anyone to have a handgun. I had my Shotguns, and Rifles to defend my home with. But recently, I was asked to check a friend’s property, they noticed someone had damaged the gate to their property, when they arrived home, and was going to wait on the road at the end of their drive. They had called for the police. They said it was pretty obvious the police did not want to respond. So off I went. It took me half and hour to get there. (No Police). I bravely entered the property, armed with my PELLET PISTOL, to check things out. I found no one. My friends found what looked like a failed attempt to break in a door. I waited with them another half hour, and still NO POLICE. We called the police back, to let them know they could cancel the call. We were told that they had not yet dispatched anyone to the scene. A couple of weeks later I made a trip to a neighboring state. The friend I was visiting there had a neighbor who was a retired Sheriff. They were talking about a handgun my friend was considering buying. It was type the Sheriff used as a back up weapon. I was asked my thoughts on it. I told them I didn’t see any reason for owning one. I explained that I did have a Pellet Pistol, and how I had taken it to my friends on the aforementioned instance. The retired Sheriff laughed, then scolded me. He told me taking my Pellet Gun was worse than taking no gun. The trespassers could have seen it and used a “real gun” and shot me on the spot. He also recommended I get a handgun. I explained I had my Shotgun and Rifle. He asked why did I not take one of them instead of the Pellet gun? I explained they seemed a little cumbersome, and if someone was hidden and I was in close proximity I might not be able to use the long guns. The Sheriff said, “One of the reasons you should consider getting a handgun”. He also added long guns are not real good if I was attacked by a carjacker, if I were met with a mugger, and he continued on and on with reasons I should consider a handgun. As of now I have not made a decision. I will think it over this week. Check back next week for further details. Comments are welcome. REAL COMMENTS. I make no money for my opinions, and any comment posted to promote your business will not be posted. Views: 98
“DEFLATE GATE” Final Word
This will be the final word you hear from me on “DEFLATE GATE”. 🏈 Not all involved were fairly punished. You have the officials who receive the ball from the sidelines to be put in play. All veterans. We know they could easily tell the ball were under inflated. We have all seen them squeeze the ball before putting it in play. Yet, they went virtually unpunished for permitting this infraction. The QB in question a four game vacation. Really? (Slap on the hand) No, No, don’t do that again. As for the PATRIOTS (?)…would a real PATRIOT cheat just to win a kids game. So they lost a couple of draft picks. That is pretty easy to get around. If they see someone they really need they work out a trade with another team for him. So much for the lost draft pick. A million dollar fine. For the most of us fans that sounds like a LOTTA MONEY. But how much did they make counting in all revenue streams for “winning” the Super Bowl. Let’s say a minimum of 10 million dollars. (probably a lot more than that). But WHO of you would not shrug off a 1 million dollar fine, when you were able to pocket the other 9 million dollars. But even though they cheated one must ask the question. DID THEY WIN THE SUPER BOWL, or were they handed it by a coaching error by the SEATTLE SEAHAWK staff. I have not spoken to any one who thought they made the right call. All agree they would just keep putting the ball in the hands of Lynch. But they did make that call, and you have to admit Pete Carroll made a lot of strange calls throughout the season, and for the most part they worked out. I guess you could say he went to the well one time too many. He merely played on the fact that the other team would expect him to go with the obvious. But it did rob his team and The really best QB in many years of back-to-back Super Bowls. Like I said the PATRIOTS basically received a reprimand Roger Goodell thought the public would accept without really hurting his friends. That Is The Way I See It. Views: 106
