AUBURN Vs FLORIDA AS I SEE IT PLAYING OUT
The 2025 NCAA March Madness SEMI Championship: Auburn vs. Florida – A Game for the Ages The NCAA Tournament has a way of delivering unforgettable championship moments, and the 2025 semi game between the Auburn Tigers and the Florida Gators was no exception. With two SEC powerhouses battling for supremacy, fans at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, witnessed a game filled with drama, grit, and spectacular basketball. From the opening tip to the final buzzer, this game had everything a basketball fan could ask for. First Half: A Battle of Momentum As the ball was tossed into the air for the opening tip-off, Auburn’s dominant center, Malik Jefferson, won the tip against Florida’s star forward, Jamal Simmons. The Tigers wasted no time getting into their offensive set, with point guard Darius Thompson setting the tempo. Within the first two minutes, Auburn’s offense came alive with a deep three-pointer from sharpshooter Tyler Green, setting the tone for what would be a fast-paced contest. Florida, however, responded in kind. The Gators ran their offense through their dynamic duo, Jamal Simmons and senior guard Chris Holloway, who combined for Florida’s first ten points. Holloway showcased his veteran leadership, knocking down a step-back three over Auburn’s best defender and finishing a tough layup through contact to give Florida an early 12-7 lead. Midway through the first half, Auburn’s defense stiffened. Jefferson swatted two consecutive Florida shot attempts, sparking fast breaks that led to back-to-back dunks from forward Elijah Carter. The Tigers’ defense ignited a 10-0 run, giving them a 25-18 lead with eight minutes left in the half. Florida coach Mike White called a much-needed timeout to regroup. Out of the break, the Gators tightened their own defense, forcing Auburn into contested shots. Jamal Simmons drained a deep three from the wing, followed by a transition dunk from Holloway, cutting Auburn’s lead to 30-28. The final minutes of the first half turned into a three-point shootout. Auburn’s Tyler Green and Florida’s freshman sensation, Bryce Collins, traded long-range bombs. The last possession before halftime saw Auburn’s Thompson drive into the lane, absorb contact, and finish a tough and-one layup to give the Tigers a 42-39 lead going into the break. Halftime Score: Auburn 42, Florida 39 Second Half: A Game of Runs The second half opened with Florida coming out aggressively. Simmons continued his stellar play, hitting a pull-up jumper and following it with an emphatic put-back dunk that sent the Gators’ bench into a frenzy. Florida quickly grabbed a 47-45 lead just three minutes into the half. Auburn responded through Malik Jefferson’s interior dominance. The Tigers fed their big man in the paint, and he delivered, scoring three consecutive baskets over Florida’s undersized frontcourt. His dominant post play shifted the momentum, giving Auburn a 55-50 edge. With 10 minutes remaining, the game saw its most electrifying sequence. Holloway stripped Thompson at midcourt and threw down a ferocious dunk to bring Florida within one point. Auburn answered immediately with a deep three-pointer from Green, only for Florida’s Bryce Collins to hit one of his own on the next possession. With the score knotted at 62-62, the energy inside the stadium was electric. Final Five Minutes: Championship Pressure With the game tied at 70-70 and just under five minutes to play, every possession became crucial. Auburn’s Jefferson, despite facing constant double teams, powered his way to the rim for a tough finish. Florida countered with a smooth jumper from Holloway. The game’s defining moment came with two minutes left. Auburn, leading 76-75, forced a Florida turnover, leading to an explosive fast-break dunk from Carter. On the following possession, Florida’s Simmons drilled a contested three, tying the game at 78 with just over a minute to play. Auburn had the ball with 30 seconds left and worked it inside to Jefferson, who was fouled on a dunk attempt. He calmly sank both free throws, putting Auburn up 80-78. Florida had one last chance. With five seconds left, Holloway got a clean look from three—but his shot rimmed out, and Jefferson secured the rebound as time expired. Final Score: Auburn 80, Florida 78 Conclusion: Auburn’s victory secured their selves a Championship Berthr. Malik Jefferson’s dominant 24-point, 12-rebound performance earned him the Most Outstanding Player of tte game award. Florida, despite the heartbreak, put forth a valiant effort, with Jamal Simmons finishing with 26 points. This game will be remembered as one of the most thrilling NCAA Semi Final battles in recent memory. Two SEC rivals left everything on the court, proving once again why March Madness is the most exciting tournament in sports. Views: 0
COLLEGE TRANSFER PORTAL AND NIL AFFECTS ON SPORTS
The NCAA transfer portal, introduced in 2018, has significantly reshaped college athletics by providing student-athletes with a streamlined process to change schools. This system, combined with the advent of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rights, has led to increased player mobility and altered the dynamics of college sports programs nationwide. IMPACT ON COLLEGE ATHLETIC PROGRAMS The transfer portal has facilitated a notable increase in athlete transfers across various sports. In 2022, approximately 13% of all Division I student-athletes entered the transfer portal, with 7% successfully transferring to another NCAA program. Specifically, men’s basketball saw 1,649 athletes enter the portal, with 1,123 securing transfers to other NCAA schools . This heightened mobility has prompted athletic programs to adapt their recruitment and retention strategies, placing greater emphasis on both incoming transfers and the development of existing talent. TRANSFERS MOTIVATED BY NIL OPPORTUNITIES The introduction of NIL rights has allowed college athletes to monetize their personal brands, influencing transfer decisions. While precise data on the percentage of athletes transferring primarily for enhanced NIL opportunities is limited, anecdotal evidence suggests that financial incentives play a significant role. The transfer portal has become a tool for athletes to seek better NIL deals, with some using the possibility of transferring as leverage to renegotiate terms with their current institutions . IMAGINED FUTURE 0F COLLEGE SPORTS The combination of the transfer portal and NIL rights is expected to continue transforming college athletics. Powerhouse programs may strengthen further by attracting top talent seeking better exposure and financial opportunities, potentially diminishing the prevalence of “Cinderella” stories in tournaments. For instance, the 2025 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament’s Sweet 16 featured only teams from power conferences, a shift attributed to the transfer portal and NIL deals consolidating talent at wealthier schools . This trend raises concerns about competitive balance and the evolving nature of college sports. COACHES’ OPIONIONS ON THE TRANSFER PORTAL Coaches have expressed mixed feelings about the transfer portal. While some acknowledge the benefits of increased flexibility for athletes, others are concerned about roster stability and the challenges of team building. The ease of transferring has led to a more dynamic and, at times, unpredictable recruiting environment, requiring coaches to continually adapt their strategies. FANS’ OPINION ON THE TRANSFER PORTAL Fans’ reactions to the transfer portal are varied. Some appreciate the empowerment of student-athletes and the excitement brought by new talent joining their favorite teams. Others lament the perceived erosion of team loyalty and the potential weakening of traditional rivalries. The shifting landscape has sparked debates about the essence of college sports and the balance between athlete rights and maintaining the integrity of collegiate competitions. In conclusion, The transfer portal and NIL rights have ushered in a new era for college athletics, characterized by increased player movement and evolving program dynamics. As stakeholders navigate these changes, ongoing discussions will be essential to address the challenges and opportunities presented by this transformed landscape. Views: 0
2025 NCAA MARCH MADNESS Pick Sheet
. Attention: We are currently in the process of moving to a NEW URL!!!!. We are now on and will be found at http://fromthemiddle.blog . For a limited time if you use the old http://fromthemiddleblog.com . you will be redirected to the current url you are seeing now. WARNING: What you see below is an editorial comment from an OLD PLAYER and fan. I was pretty disappointed in a lot of the officiating in Wednesday round 1. I know they haven’t made a lot of calls that we of the 1950-1960 era would have been called for. 1. We would have been called for “PALMING THE BALL” , that occurs when the dribbler turns the ball up toward the ceiling and then down to dribble. (this allows the ball handler to get an extra step between dribbles, and throws off the timing of the defender. 2. I saw a player reach out and dribble two times to bring the ball back to him. (Obviously he had control of the ball or he couldn’t get the ball to him. He then picked up the ball, held it and then began to dribble> DOUBLE DRIBBLE! 3. Then we have the “DUNK’ . A shot that was definitely a goal tend, as the DUNKERS hand is inside the invisible extension above the rim. NOW as a defender I am barred from reaching into this area or I will be called for goal tending. A shot so easy for these kids who can easily reach the rim. If they allow this i would value the shot at 1/2 point. (When we played the average height for a man was 5 foot 8 inches, thus putting the rim more than 4 feet over their head. (There were exceptions of course, you occasionally would find a player over 6 feet tall). TIME TO RAISE THE RIM guys. When we played BASKETBALL was a non contact sport. If you touched an opposing player it was a foul. NOT TO MENTION; we were amateur athletes . NOW with the players getting Thousands of dollars in scholorships, they are now paid by schools and outside sources to play at certain schools. (MINI NBA PRO). There are so many things players get by with now. It isn’t basketball anymore. I know things change due to what the younger people want. But I have always held Basketball in the highest esteem. I hate seeing the new game. BUT still I watch. O.L. Thymer Rick Pitino of St John’s, and his son Richard Pition coach of New Mexico BECAME the FIRST FATHER AND SON TO WIN NCAA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT GAMES IN THE SAME YEAR. Children Sports Burn Out
Yes, too much of one sport can indeed lead to burnout in children. Burnout usually results from chronic stress and might manifest as physical or emotional exhaustion, reduced performance, feelings of cynicism or detachment, and a lack of accomplishment. Although it varies from child to child, typically, playing multiple games a week, and adding in practices as well as travel for tournaments on weekends can become overwhelming. This intense schedule can cause physical fatigue and mental stress. To avoid burnout: 1. Variety: Encourage your child to play different sports. This can help them develop diverse skills and prevent overuse injuries. 2. Breaks: Ensure that your child takes breaks during the season and has an off-season when they do not play any organized sport. 3. Balance: Balance their sports activities with other things they enjoy like hanging out with friends, hobbies or family time. 4. Limitation: A common recommendation is that children should not spend more hours a week than their age playing sports. For example, a 10-year-old should play no more than 10 hours per week. 5. Listen: Pay attention to your child’s feelings about their sport commitment – if they’re consistently feeling too tired or unmotivated to participate, it may be time to reduce the intensity of involvement. 6. Fun element: It’s important that playing sports remains fun for your child rather than being perceived as a chore or job. 7. Professional guidance: Seek advice from a coach or pediatrician if you worry about burnout or over-exercise. It’s important to remember that every child is unique – one size does not fit all when it comes to an appropriate schedule for sports participation. Views: 52

THE BIRTH of BASKETBALL: JAMES NAISMITH and SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE
[adrotate group=”1″] 🏀 Basketball, unlike most popular sports, has a concise and all-American origin—it is the only major sport strictly rooted in the United States. The game was created by James Naismith, a physical education instructor, around December 1, 1891, at the International Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Training School (now Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts. Naismith designed the game as an indoor activity to keep athletes active during the winter months. Little did he know that his invention would become a global phenomenon. Early Years and Growth Outdoor Beginnings: In the early years, the number of players on a team varied based on class size and playing area. The first games were played with varying team sizes, but eventually settled on five players per team—a rule that remains unchanged to this day. Canada’s Role: Since Naismith and five of his original players were Canadians, it’s not surprising that Canada was the first country outside the United States to embrace basketball. The game quickly spread to other countries, including France, England, Australia, China, India, and Japan. Collegiate Sport: Within a decade, basketball became a collegiate sport, and the first professional league was formed in 1898. Olympic Inclusion: Basketball gained inclusion in the Olympic Games in 1936 and grew in international popularity following World War II. The NBA: The formation of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1949 cemented the sport’s cultural importance in the United States. Crawfordsville, Indiana: The Cradle of Basketball Montgomery County, Indiana, situated between Indianapolis and Lafayette, proudly claims the title of the “Cradle of Basketball.” First Indiana High School Champions: The first eight Indiana High School state championships were won by schools within 30 miles of Crawfordsville. Crawfordsville High School clinched the inaugural title in 1911. Dominance of Crawfordsville: From 1915 to 1969, Crawfordsville dominated, winning 32 sectional titles. Waynetown’s Upset: In 1970, Waynetown High School pulled off a surprise upset over Crawfordsville, winning the sectional championship. Kim “The Closer” Suitors scored 17 points in the final quarter during that memorable game. Alamo Gym: The Alamo gym, south of Waynetown, still stands, albeit in disrepair. Its beautiful murals on the 1941 façade are a testament to its basketball legacy. “Hoosiers” Connection: Fans of the movie “Hoosiers” might recognize New Richmond, also known as the town of “Hickory.” The town embraced its notoriety gained from its part in the film. March Madness and Crawfordsville March Madness, the thrilling college basketball tournament, has its origins in Crawfordsville, Indiana. While the phrase was coined in Evansville, Crawfordsville has long been considered the host of the first basketball game in Indiana’s history. With the spotlight on Crawfordsville, Indiana, this year, the hardwoods once again become the center of the basketball universe. So next time you watch a basketball game during March Madness, remember that it all began with James Naismith’s vision and found its roots in the heart of Indiana—Crawfordsville. 🏀🌟 For more details, explore the Basketball Heritage Trail and discover the incredible stories and landmarks that make Montgomery County an unforgettable place for hoops history. BEWARE of FAKE TICKETS: SAFEGUARD YOUR MARCH MADNESS EXPERIENCE
[adrotate group=”1″] MARCH MADNESS—the exhilarating crescendo of college basketball—beckons fans with the promise of electrifying games, roaring crowds, and unforgettable moments. As the tournament approaches, the scramble for tickets intensifies. But amidst the frenzy, there’s a lurking danger: fake tickets peddled by unscrupulous vendors and scalpers. The Scam Landscape Online Pitfalls: The internet, a double-edged sword, offers countless avenues to find tickets. Unfortunately, some of these listings are rip-offs. In 2019 alone, the Better Business Bureau received nearly 400 reports related to ticket scams for sporting events, concerts, and theater shows. Beware of enticing online deals that seem too good to be true. Individual Sellers: Most scams occur when buying from individuals. Picture this: you meet someone on the street or transact online, believing you’ve secured a legitimate ticket. But here’s the twist—multiple buyers may hold the same ticket. The first person to scan it at the venue gains entry, leaving others stranded. Shield Yourself: Practical Tips Source Wisely: Venue First: Whenever possible, purchase directly from the venue. Official ticket sales agents now offer secondary sales options. Know Your Source: Understand the difference between: Professional Ticket Brokers: Legitimate, accredited resellers. Ticket Scalpers: Unregulated and unlicensed sellers. Scammers: The ones peddling counterfeit tickets. Check Credentials: Look up sellers on BBB.org to learn from others’ experiences. Verify if they’re members of the National Association of Ticket Brokers (NATB), which offers a 200% purchase guarantee. Online Caution: Trustworthy Vendors: Buy only from trusted online vendors. Look for the lock symbol in the web address, indicating a secure purchasing system. Avoid Email Links: Scammers often create web addresses resembling well-known companies. Don’t click through from emails or online ads. Know the Refund Policy: Transparency Matters: Ensure the reseller provides clear details about the transaction terms. Seat Location Disclosure: Sellers should reveal the exact seat location represented by the tickets. Shipping or Pickup: If tickets aren’t immediately accessible, know when they’ll ship or be available for pickup. Safe Payment Methods: Credit Cards: Always use credit cards for ticket purchases. They offer recourse if things go awry. Avoid Risky Methods: Debit cards, wire transfers, or cash transactions leave you vulnerable. Spotting Red Flags Too Good to Be True: If the price seems unrealistically low, pause and reconsider. Ripped Tags and Irregular Markings: Inspect merchandise for signs of tampering. Authorized Retail Locations: Opt for authorized retail stores and licensed online vendors. Final Words March Madness is a celebration of basketball prowess, camaraderie, and sheer adrenaline. Don’t let fake tickets tarnish your experience. Arm yourself with knowledge, stay vigilant, and cheer for your team without falling prey to scams. Remember, the thrill of victory should never be shadowed by the agony of a counterfeit ticket. [adrotate group=”1″] Views: 136
CAITLIN CLARK vs. PETE MARAVICH: A SCORING DUEL
[adrotate group=”1″] The Records: 🏀 Pete Maravich: College Years : Maravich played for Louisiana State University (LSU) from 1967 to 1970. Scoring Average: He averaged an astounding 44.2 points per game during his college career. Total Points: Maravich set an NCAA record with a total of 3,667 points. (In 3 years), Total Points: Notably, Maravich achieved this feat without the benefit of the 3-point shot, which was introduced later, and he accomplished it in just three season. (Freshmen not allowed to play) Playing Style: Maravich was a shooting, dribbling, and passing wizard who dominated the college game. Caitlin Clark: College Years: Clark currently plays for the University of Iowa and has been making waves since 2020. Scoring Prowess: She is a scoring dynamo, consistently putting up impressive numbers. Current Total Points: As of now, Clark has amassed 3,650 points. Advantages: Unlike Maravich, she has the advantage of the 3-point shot and other modern rules. Playing Style: Clark’s playing style is reminiscent of Maravich’s—fearless, aggressive, and with a shoot-first mentality. Should There Be an Asterisk? The question of whether Caitlin Clark should have an asterisk next to her name when she breaks Maravich’s scoring record is subjective. Here are some considerations: Era and Rules: Maravich played in a different era, without the shot clock or the 3-point line. These factors significantly impacted gameplay. Clark’s achievements occur in a more modern context, with rule changes that favor high-scoring games. Duration: Maravich achieved his record in three seasons, while Clark is on track to surpass it in four seasons. Some argue that the longer duration gives Clark more opportunities to accumulate points. Individual Accomplishments: Both players stand on their own merits. Clark’s achievements are remarkable, regardless of Maravich’s record. Comparing them directly may not be entirely fair, as they played different games under different circumstances. Conclusion: Caitlin Clark’s scoring prowess is undeniable, and she deserves recognition for her achievements. Whether an asterisk should accompany her record-breaking moment is a matter of perspective. Ultimately, both players have left an indelible mark on college basketball, each in their unique way. As fans, let’s celebrate their greatness without diminishing either player’s legacy. 🏀 [adrotate group=”1″] Views: 171
A BRIEF HISTORY OF NCAA MARCH MADNESS
[adrotate group=”1″] 🏀The college national tournament, also known as the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, is one of the most popular and exciting events in American sports. Every year, 68 teams compete in a single-elimination bracket to determine the national champion of college basketball. But how did this tournament begin and evolve over time? The first NCAA Tournament was held in 1939, with only eight teams invited. The Oregon Webfoots (now Ducks) won the inaugural title, defeating, 46-33 in the final. The tournament was created by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and was initially overshadowed by the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), which had started a year earlier and featured more established teams from the East. However, the NCAA Tournament gradually gained prestige and popularity, especially after 1951, when a point-shaving scandal tarnished the reputation of the NIT. The NCAA also expanded the field of the tournament several times, adding more teams from different regions and conferences. In 1952, the field grew to 16 teams; in 1975, it reached 32 teams; in 1985, it expanded to 64 teams; and in 2011, it added four more teams to create the First Four round. The NCAA Tournament also witnessed some of the most memorable moments and players in basketball history. Some of the highlights include: The UCLA dynasty, led by coach John Wooden and stars like Lew Alcindor (later Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) (because Alcindor was so proficient at dunking the ball, DUNKS were banned in high school and college from 1967-1976), and Bill Walton, that won 10 titles in 12 years from 1964 to 1975. (As you know I beleive dunking is still an ILLEGAL move. It is GOAL TENDING !!! To dunk the ball you enter the the extended. area above the rim, giving the offensive player an UNFAIR advantage: as the defender is not allowed to enter the same area. NOW if they were to allow the defender the same latitude (to enter this area), Then the DEFENDER is on equal footing. BESIDES, What is so exciting about a player who can stand flat footed and touch the rim, sticking the ball in the hoop, WHOOPIE. If they allow this it should only count as 1 POINT. (difficulty level should come into play here). The 1979 final between Michigan State and Indiana State, featuring the first matchup of future NBA legends Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, which drew a record 24.1 million viewers. The 1982 final between North Carolina and Georgetown, in which a freshman named Michael Jordan hit the game-winning shot with 15 seconds left. The 1983 final between North Carolina State and Houston, in which the underdog Wolfpack stunned the heavily favored Cougars with a buzzer-beating dunk by Lorenzo Charles off a missed shot by Dereck Whittenburg. The 1992 East Regional final between Duke and Kentucky, in which Christian Laettner hit a turnaround jumper at the buzzer after a full-court pass from Grant Hill, capping off a 104-103 overtime thriller. The NCAA Tournament continues to captivate millions of fans every year, who fill out their brackets and root for their favorite teams or Cinderella stories. The tournament is also a showcase for the best college players, some of whom go on to become stars in the NBA or other professional leagues. The tournament is a celebration of the sport of basketball and its rich history and tradition. 🏀 Views: 153
