This That and the Other Thing

Today I will be talking about a few things.  Football, Politics, Basketbal, and anything else that pops into my mind. FOOTBALL:  Questions.  Will Peyton Retire?  YES! I believe he will retire.  But follow the lead of Jeff Saturday and retire as  a COLT. Will Johnny Manziel find a home?   Despite his intolerable behavior….I believe someone will find a spot for him.  JAMESIS WINSTON found a home,  DIDN’T he. What about Robert  Griffin III ?  I think he will land some where.  BUT as I wrote before his, Russel Wilson, and Andrew Luck’s drafting.  R.G.III needs to play behind a veteran for at least one or two years.  Then I think he will be ready.   POLITICS:  Same old thing.  people will elect another MULTI-MILLIONAIRE, who has no interest in the working people.  Right now it looks like our choice will be Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.   Before I move on let me remind you I do not affiliate with any party.  It is my belief THERE IS NO ROOM IN GOVERNMENT FOR PARTIES.    That said;  Donald Trump has set a precedent as one who will, if things get a little tough he will bail.  Just look how many times he has bailed out of businesses using  BANKRUPTCY!!!!   Hillary Clinton:  Don’t forget Who’s name was on NAFTA which sent and continues to send AMERICAN JOBS to another country.  CLINTON.  She has been caught in so many LIES already.  Yes I know  LYING is a politician’s pre-requisite.   As an INDEPENT VOTER I must say our choices get worse every election. Lastly. BASKETBALL: Thank goodness we have something to look forward to.  I will have your printable brackets, and updates for the NCAA Tournament.  This year is the first time in many years the Tournament looks wide open.  Every week we see I would say about 5 upsets.  Who will peak at just the right time, or have an outstanding game: or the worst game of their season. Yes I will have my selections, how you would do if you had picked the favored team,  AND the upset sheet which will highlight every upset for the Tourney. Time to go now. Talk to again.  Be sure to check back for my coverage of MARCH MADNESS. PS: I almost forgot. The Oscars.  As usual most all awards go to the least deserving.  I usually go to one movie a week,  and the movies I watched were MUCH better than the winners.  I truly believe the pre-reqisite for an Oscar is a bad job which needs the “MAGICAL ACADEMY AWARD”   to get a push. I won’t go through every award.  Let me just say BEST ACTOR:  DiCaprio???? Are you kidding.  He was a terrible actor as a child, and is still terrible.   The best movie he even came close to giving a really good performance was 14 years ago.  CATCH ME IF YOU CAN.  Sorry but that is truly the only movie I could call him creditable.  THE REVENANT was an interesting story.  But really a Chimpanzee could have turned in as good a performance. So as you can see they should have made a special category to score him as Oscar.  The category should have been  PARTICIPATION OSCAR.  Just as the little soccer players win or lose get a Participation trophy. PSS:  I forgot I wanted to mention the threat of the Louisiana Governor to do away with LSU Football.  We all know that LSU brings in a massive amount of money to the state for their football games.  To take away the financing would be a bigger blow to Louisiana’s economy than the program costs. Government Seeks More Of Your Money

It must be that time of year.  Companies are talking of more layoffs.  According to news reports the RICH widening their gap between them and the middle class, which must mean the poor are getting poorer.  What we have doesn’t buy what it did a year ago. One area I read about is trying to kill itself.  Earlier I wrote of a community in Indiana who charges parents for their children to ride to school.  And to participate in sports.  Now I see they are wanting to raise fees for just about everything, and put new fees on anything they can find.  NO wonder people are looking to move away.  Perhaps this is an attempt to weed out the poorer class (perhaps including the middle class),  and establish a community of upper crust citizens. I just read that Illinois citizens have built the WHITE SOX owners a new BACARDI restaurant, at a cost of millions.  By the way the taxpayers receive no share of the profits of this restaurant.  It all goes to the owners of the White Sox baseball team. BUT we all know that movie theaters make most of their money from concessions.  I just read that in Washington D.C.  The mayor wants to tack on an extra tax for concession.  They already pay 10% tax on concessions.  As I understand, which is quite high.  BUT to add another 5% and raise the tax to 15%…..well isn’t that a little greedy?  Not to mention the less people will be able to attend, and may put the theaters out of business.  Thus a loss of revenue from the property, and business tax, let’s not forget the current 10% tax on concessions. I think their reasoning is flawed.  They intend to use the money to lure movie production companies thus creating jobs.  Am I wrong if less people go to the movies because they can’t afford the concessions,  there will be more demand for movies to be made. I know now in my town for 2 of us to go to the movies cost about $20 this is more than the average wage.  But get this for one medium Coke and medium popcorn add another $20.  That is why we have began driving 2o miles to another town that costs us about $12 on a Sunday afternoon, to get in and about $10 dollars for a medium Coke and medium popcorn Oh for the good old days when we had drive in theaters.  One night I think it was Monday was carload night.  you could take your whole family to the movies for about $2,  You brought your own popcorn and Cokes.  Yet the concession stand was always crowded with people buying hot dogs, hamburgers, etc. Well I guess it is getting close to Christmas.  What better time to lay people off and raise taxes, fees, etc. That Is How I See It. more than between Views: 166

Multi Level Marketing

Multi Level Marketing, pyramid scheme, whatever you want to call it.  Only the people at the top make any money. These schemes vary in structure,  but  only slightly.  I am not saying that you cannot reach the upper levels.  It generally depends on how good you are at USING  other people to your own ends. One scheme I refused to get into was “AMY”  (not their real name).  One reason was the fact that I needed a job. Being a single parent.  I asked if this was “AMY”.  No was their reply.  I went for their interview/presentation.  Guess what it was “AMY” .  I knew of  “AMY” through relatives who had fell into their hype.  They told me the company was so saturated with agents, the only sales they could make was to themselves. Another company.  I did get involved with  actually had and still does have a great product.  A product I still believe in, and use.   The trouble with this company was that they were so behind in technology, and sales methods, it made it almost impossible to sell the product.  The rules they had were archaic.  They even wanted to reprimand me for an article that appeared in our local newspaper,  and on the papers website.  (I had no contact with the paper.  My name was listed as an agent).  We had a plan for businesses to offer as a benefit to their employees.  A member of our local group talked to a representative of the paper (indirectly) about this plan.  The paper was so impressed (although they were turned down by upper management, from accepting our offer), one of the reporters wrote a story about our product.  Good way to get out the word in an area that had not heard of it.  Right?  Not according to the corporate offices.  I was told to take down the posting.  Which I could not, as it was not my website.  In a word I was told that I could not talk to anyone about the product.  Just sell it.  Doesn’t make much sense does it.  Our team had sold more of the product than anyone in our area. How you make it to the top.  Not by selling the product.  By getting more people selling it.  If you had about 1000 people selling under you, it would be possible to make money. The company made their money, by requiring you to Pay for a website they owned.  (I could build my own website, and cost a lot less).  They had a customer service group which you had to pay for, that would help you retain your customers,  But to my knowledge did nothing to help.  Old customers that I had lost told me they were never contacted.  They were to handle all questions, and assist clients in the use of the product.  You had to BUY all  sales brochures, contracts, etc from them.  You could only use Business cards they made, at an inflated price.  You were also responsible to buy any promotional items from them.  You were expected to attend their monthly and semi-annual pep talks. Which you also had to pay to attend. Like I said this last one was and is a great product I would recommend it to all of you.  But since I cannot talk about it.  I guess I can’t tell you what it is. Multi Marketing, Pyramid schemes.  I only know of one person who made any money.  He did it by accident.  He was in his Senior year at college and signed on to work with this company. (NOT the one I was just talking about)  to get his parents off his back, not helping himself earn spending money.  It had something to do with retirement plans.  He was sitting in a bar. A fellow sat down beside him and they began to talk.  He told him what he was doing and the company. (They also had a great product, but it was also a pyramid scheme.  The fellow happened to be an executive with a large corporation that was looking at building a new factory in the area.  A couple of days later the fellow contacted him and wanted a presentation to be made in front of the Company Board.  Not knowing much about his new job he contacted his upper line.  A High up in the pyramid went with him and gave the presentation.  He landed the account.  He Got about $1 million dollars for landing the account,  and as far as I know he is still getting around $250,000.00 a year in residual income.  He went on to be a teacher like his parents. Beware Pyramid/Multi Marketing schemes. That Is How I See It. involved Views: 223

Dwindling Unemployment

The Government keeps talking about how the unemployment rate is dropping.  But is it? As you know politics is about skewing the facts.  Making promises you have no intentions of keeping.  Example:  How many times have you heard a politician say.  “If elected I WILL do this or that.  Knowing they can only do this if they have the backing of other elected officials.  Promises mean nothing and neither does their reports.  Remember my post about “Media Spin” . What they don’t tell you about the “dwindling unemployment” is more important than what they do tell you. I’m sure they don’t count the people who are homeless that would love to have a job but can’t find one and are not on the unemployment roles.  They don’t count those of us who have exhausted our unemployment funds.  Those of us who have given up on finding full time employment and do day work to try to survive.  Those of us living with relatives. because we can’t find a job.  Those of us who swap things for things we need, in order to survive.  No these aren’t included. How can you get an idea of how many people are unemployed.  An easy way to get an idea is to subtract the number of jobs added from the number of jobs lost.  But that only gives you an approximation.  Here in my state they consider you employed even if you are only working 8 hours a week.  they have companies who are considering bringing in jobs and use their projected employment even if it is 2 years from now.  In other words they count jobs that don’t yet exist.  If a company has , say 50 people working on a temporary basis. (who are not collecting unemployment), The company decides to make these jobs permanent,  Then they count these into their NEW jobs.  It makes the Governor and other officials look good.  That is more important the truthful reporting of unemployed.  I know I will never be able to find a real job.  The only hope I have is to find an investor and start my own business. I either am overqualified, underqualified,  Too old or too young.   I am probably more overqualified than the rest.  I don’t care.  Give me a job. Skewed unemployment counts.  That is the story today.  Give false hope to Americans. That Is How I See It. find find Views: 174

Dying Cities/Towns

Growing up in a rural area,  I remember traveling to our county seat.  (The Big City).  At that time they had they had 2 drive in theaters. 3 root beer stands, A DQ,  3 indoor theaters, a roller skating rink.  Two bowling alleys. A Borden’s milk delivery service, a Maplehurst milk delivery service, a bread delivery service.  For you who don’t know what these were,  Milk and bread were delivered directly to your door. The biggest high school in the county, with 6 grade schools.  They, unlike our rural schools, even had kindergarten.  They had 2 pool rooms, and about 5 drug stores.  Not like your Walgreens or CVS, etc. These were small stores where they also had fountains for you to get sodas and ice cream and sit around and talk.  Very popular with the tweens, and teens. Downtown had 3 hotels. Large ones.  Two or three book stores.  Large factories,  Enough to employ a large portion of the county residents.  A YMCA,  a Boys Club, that had  actually fees that were low enough that any boy could belong,  Not like the rich kids country club they now call the BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB.  Fees were like $5 , now I believe it costs about $25-$30 each.  It was located where kids could walk to after school, and have fun.  The leagues they had set up cost about another $5 to join. (this was just to cover the T-Shirts to separate the teams.  Now it cost about $40 plus for the same events.  The kids have to walk about 2-3 miles to get to the club (which is located across the street from the county jailhouse. Now the multiiple hard ware stores and lumber companies have been replaced by 1 Home Depot.  No more root beer stands, no skating rink, 1 bowling alley,  Which is so expensive I can no longer afford to bowl.  I used to bowl 2l leagues, Tuesday, and Thursday, 1 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday.  Saturday and Sunday were reserved for pot bowling and tourneys.  Many closed Factories, and high unemployment.  Thanks to Wal*Mart (our only place to shop,  As they cut prices until competition run out of town.  Now we pay more for items than in towns/cities where Wal*Mart has competition.  Theye used to have a gas station on about every corner, they actually came out pumped your gas, checked your oil, tire pressure, and washed your windows.  If needed they repaired your car, washed it, and fixed flats. Now they have lost most of the Industries.  Lost all of the entertainments, they had.   Closed about half of the schools. People moving out because there is no jobs to be had.  The Electric Company just announced that their revenues are down because there is so many vacant houses, and the loss of industry, and business.  To stay in business they will have to raise their rates.  The factories, that are left are paying less because there is more demand for jobs than jobs available. The only thing there is more of is Motels, and eating establishments,  (mostly fast foot).  When I want a good meal I have to travel about 30 miles to eat.  Oh yes.  The local and only hospital has just announced there will be no more births at their facility because they could not justify the 13 employees they had.  So now if you live in this area you will have to drive 30 t0 40 miles to have your baby born in a hospital. The town has so many empty buildings setting,  just deteriorating.  They would be better to adopt a plan like some of the surrounding communities.  If the building sets vacant for over a year or two.  The owner must have it removed. Portrait of a dying City/town. Yes they had a thriving town.  Many small businesses.  I remember they had 3 butcher shops.  When Church was over although there were about 10 sit down restaurants, you usually had to stand in line to get a seat.
