Peyton Manning To Denver

Just in. Jeff Saturday, Peyton Manning’s long time snapper. Will break up the duo and head to Green Bay Today it was announced that the former COLTS quarterback has decided to move to Denver. As it appears to me the Bronco fans seem so immersed in having Tim Tebow lead their team.   One must wonder what their reaction will be.  Will they welcome an aging. up the (and somewhat questionable health quarterback), or will they be Tebooing, the future hall of famer Peyton Manning. Their is talk of Colts snapper Jeff Saturday following Manning to Denver.  Why break up a successful team? I question Manning’s decision to continue to play football and risk his health and possibly his life,  to follow his wish to extend his playing career.  After all of his surgeries he must think of himself as the “Six Million Dollar Man”.  Better, Stronger, etc.   But even though the doctors may say he is good to go….well we all know the fact a repair is not always as good as the original. I know during my later  years I knew the time had come for me to retire from sports I really enjoyed.  I made some money.  (Less a year, than Manning gets probably from one play on the football field).  But I had become a single parent and realized I owed my time to my children.   I do not think Peyton Manning has given this much thought.  What happens if he takes a severe hit and either ends up paralyzed or worse.  What about his quality time with his children.  I guess you could say I am just looking at this from  a negative point of view.  I think of it as a realistic point of view.  For me money is a secondary, third concern.  Family first.  I would much rather have the memories of raising my children than the money I could have amassed.  I wish him well with his career and his health. One last comment before I close.  It is Peyton’s choice.  I hope it is the correct one.  Remember it took the Colts a few years to learn to play “Peyton Manning Offense”.  Will he be able to play at Denver long enough to teach them to play “Peyton Manning Offense”?  If he can will he be around long enough to capitalize on it? Colts New Coach

Continuing to  follow the drama of the Indianapolis Colts.  We had a Super Bowl  contending team a year ago.  This year we saw that team drop to a dismal 2-14 team.  Most everyone will agree the loss of Peyton Manning the Colts were no longer the MASSIVE offensive machine it was.  Thus allowing the opponent to exploit the weaknesses of the defense.  (Which was less a concern of teams prior to the meltdown).  With the Colts not able to score: their opponents, could concentrate less on stopping the scoring, and more on SCORING themselves.  Again, this goes back to the Polians’, and Irsay’s  failure to foresee the impact of a Manning-less led offense.  So as is the usual case the lower level people must bear the brunt of the failure.  (Regardless of their involvement). Apparently Jim Irsay has given new General Manager,  Ryan Grigson, CARTE BLANCHE as far as team personnel is concerned. HOWEVER:  I could be wrong, and probably am, the new COACH has been an employee of the team for this last season.  I do not think Mr. Grigson has any real say here.  I feel Jim Irsay made the decision to replace JIM CALDWELL  last year. The person I am thinking of may be able to lead a PRO team.  BUT  I personally have a problem with his ethics.  Whether the COLTS fans will share my concern remains to be seen.  (I doubt if they will.  As we saw with the lockout, most “fans”  don’t really care about such things only if their team wins). The CENTRAL changes in the coaching ranks I see are these two. COACH:  Former OHIO STATE COACH JIM TRESSEL. OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR: Former Colts QB PEYTON MANNING. Regardless, the COLTS, will have to find a place for Manning. That Is How I See It. find find find Views: 173

Slam Dunk?

I recently read an article about wondering how many more points would Shaq have made if they didn’t have a 3 sec lane violation as they did in Wilt Chamberlain’s day.  Excuse me. They did have the 3 sec lane violation, however in his day they actually called it. The topic of the day is the DUNK.  The DUNK is in reality is an illegal move.  Goal tending is contact with the ball when the ball is above the rim and has the possibility of entering the basket. The way it is interpreted in todays games.  It is an advantage given to the offensive team.  They are allowed to actually put their hands in the extended cylinder above the rim, and sometimes even inside the rim.  However the defense is not allowed this discretion.  Very unfair ruling.  You are essentially handicapping the defense with this interpretation,. Here is the thing.  With the height of the players today, many can stand flat footed and touch the rim.  It takes very little skill to be able to be above the rim.  I believe if  they want to keep allowing this infraction, Dunks should only count 1/2 point.  Or allow 1 point for DUNKS,  2 points for  free throws,  3 points, field goals and 4 points beyond the arc.   This would reward the difficulty level of the shot.  Also defenders should be allowed to put their hands inside the cylinder area. I know many of you find the DUNK exciting.  Why I’ll never know.  There is no skill involved, unless you are a Spud Webb.  Be honest with yourself.  If you can reach the rim standing flat footed, isn’t that about the same thing as you standing over your trash can and dropping a wadded up piece of paper in. As for me.  Raise the Rim.  they have made so many changes in the rules already.  No jump ball on tie ups,  you can push and touch opposing players, (for those of you who are unaware Basketball was meant as a non-contact sport).  Why not raise the rim to 12-14 feet.  When basketball was invented the average player was about 5 feet 8 inches.  Ten feet was a good height.  But now with players 7 feet tall (give or take a a couple of inches),  10 feet is just not an adequate height.
