MARCH 12,2020 “Today, NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors canceled the Division I men’s and women’s 2020 basketball tournaments, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships,” the NCAA said in a statement. “This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities.” This marks the first year the NCAA tournament has not been played since its inception in 1939. That year, the event featured only eight teams, and Oregon beat Ohio State to win the first championship. National Championship ]This is where you can print your “OFFICE POOL” Bracket, Check the scores, etc. Yes I will have “MY PICKS” so you can compare your picks to mine. (And Laugh or Cry)I will have A “MASTER BRACKET”, “WHAT IF YOU CHOSE THE HIGH PICKS” for each game. Yes I will have MY PICKS. .An “UPSET” will be RED on “ALL HIGH PICKS” Bracket. GREEN indicate HIGH SEED Win What is a seed? Merely a starting place. Although unlikely, IT is possible for two 16 seeds to meet in the final game. Would lets say Michigan St were to be seeded as a number 16. They would still have to win all games to be CHAMPION ! SEEDING attempts to give a more favored team an easier path to the CHAMPIONSHIP. Seeding should lead to the best 2 teams playing in the final game. However there is always that upset minded team; or the chance that the favored team has a bad game, a stand out player is sick or injured. To print BRACKET: HOVER OVER SHEET. You will see a window at bottom with an arrow pointing down (second from right). Click this button. It will open a new window with the bracket then click the printer icon or go to file, and PRINT. TO Enlarge each sheet: Hover over and select the square on the far bottom RIGHT. To return to PAGE Repeat. Passing of an Era
We learned this weekend of the passing of a FOOTBALL LEGEND. Coach Joe Paterno of PENN STATE. A man seeking to do the best job he could to lead young men in the sport that he so dearly loved. This he did for more than 4 decades. Winning on the field was important. But he left his players knowing the real winning came off the field. The real winning was in how they lived their lives and the contributions made to society. Somebody told me they thought he had over 400 players go on to the pro ranks. Plus such a long line of records I won’t bother to go into them here. Most college football fans know these; well. A man of his credentials could easily have found a job coaching a Professional team and earned a lot more money. But he loved to work with the young men preparing them for life. He loved Penn State. In fact I believe it was once reported he donated more than 4 million dollars to his employer,, Penn State. That is not just loyalty; that is LOVE. So let us salute Joe Paterno with the deepest respect for his lifetime of effort forming a lifetime of goodwill and fair play on the field of football and life. You will be missed. Joe Paterno to Retire
It is no surprise to hear Penn State’s “Elder Statesman” is retiring. We all expected him to retire, due to health issues. But his love of the game kept him going. I can’t think it was the money which kept him going. After all these years he has earned enough to retire and live quite comfortably. Why would a man of his age, even think about standing out there in the cold, rain, snow, etc. I feel it had to be the love of the game, and the kindred spirit he shared with his players. Rare men like Joe Paterno are able to pass on many life lessons to the young men he tutors. I hope COACH Paterno enjoys his retirement. I feel he will somehow find a way to be associated with either football, the young men or both. Coach Paterno (age 84) (85 December 21, 2011), has ran an exceptional football program for the better part of the 62 years he has been coaching at Penn State. (Let me explain RAN. The head coach runs the program. “JoePa” has only been the head coach since 1966. That was before many of us were born,) Before becoming Penn State and the nations longest reigning football coach, Paterno had a lengthy history with the game of football. While attending Brown University he played QB and CB. and currently co-shares the record for interceptions, at fourteen. Coach Paterno served as an assistant coach at Penn State from 1950 until taking over the reins as head coach in 1966. I could most likely fill at least one entire page listing the awards he has won. However the circumstances surrounding his retirement is a real bummer. One man cannot be held responsible for the actions of other adult men. But true to his teachings he bears the responsibility of his program. And thus the shame brought on his program by others who were apparently not able to uphold the high standards, Coach Paterno has set. Coach their actions do not really reflect you. How many people do we know who could stay at one job 62 years. Congratulations on a GREAT career, and being a TERRIFIC example for young men everywhere.
