[adrotate group=”1″] For those of you who are unfamiliar, or are. here are a few illustrations of the some of the the rules you should find being followed during this year’s NCAA MARCH MADNESS.. Personal Foul: When a player of the opposing team makes contact with a player of the other team. Remember BASKETBALL is a non-contact sport. (Well it used to be). STEALING THE BALL: Taking the ball away from the offensive team during normal play. THREE SECOND LANE VIOLATION: Called when an offensive is in the LANE for more than 3 seconds. (The LANE is the portion of the floor from the free throw line bounded on each side by line where the rebounders stand during a free throw. It is usually a different color than the rest of the floor; but doesn’t have to be.) You rarely see this called regardless of how long the player stays there. BANK SHOT: A shot that BANKS off the glass and into the basket. SLAM DUNK: When an offensive player (technically goal tends, leaving the defensive player without a way to defend, as he is not permitted to enter this area. IN REAL BASKETBALL THE OFFENSIVE PLAYER IS NOT ALLOWED IN THIS AREA EITHER. An imaginary cylinder extending above the rim area). TRAVELING: Occurs when a player takes more than 2 steps without a dribble. This is another rare call. (I guess the refs can’t count that far very often. This should be called almost every time). But in todays game “PALMING” which is when the player puts his hand under the ball and turns it over while supposedly dribbling the ball AND CARRIES IT BETWEEN DRIBBLES, is technically. traveling or could be considered a Double Dribble, as he stops his dribble then starts dribbling again. BUT NOT IN TODAYS GAME. DRIBBLING: Bringing the ball down the floor by bouncing it off the floor, but not above the head. (And not turning the ball over in your hand, as you see the players do now days). TIME OUT: This is the time the coach explains what he wants the team to do next, hoping to take advantage of the opposition by surprise. TECHNICAL FOUL: Usually an infraction that is non contact and can be called on coaches, players, even spectators. JUMP BALL: This occurs when two opposing player have control of the ball. 10 SECOND LINE VIOLATION: When a team fails to advance the ball across the mid-court line in 10 seconds. 2019 MARCH MADNESS PICK SHEETS , UPDATES AND OCCASIONAL OPINION
WELCOME TO YOUR 2019 NCAA TOURNAMENT HEADQUARTERS VIRGINIA YOUR 2019 NCAA CHAMPION. WITH OT VICTORY. VIRGINIA 85 TEXAS TECH 77 I am not sure how many years we have been doing this BUT counting pre blog days… It has been 28 years. Most of those have been over the internet For all the Auburn fans and MEDIA PEOPLE who call that last foul as QUESTIONABLE (?) Let me tell you THERE WAS NO QUESTION to it. IT was definitely a foul !! The defender JUMPED into the shooter. That is a foul all day long. As to the missed double dribble call. THAT was just that a missed call in a crucial game; at a crucial time. But it is one of those things I didn’t pick it up until the replay. The commentators, and most anyone would miss it. Unfortunate? YES. But that game was moving at a quick pace. Think of all the rules a referee has to look for. Take that times 10 athletes. I am sure the officials were looking more for contact, than a rare ball handling miscue. After all remember the rules have changed so much over the years. They let them get by with palming the ball, (turning the ball over in their hands, OFFENSIVE can legally GOAL TEND, but Defense is not allowed to defend in like manner. THEY call it DUNKING THE BALL. Any time the hand is in the imaginary circle immediately above the rim THAT IS GOAL TENDING. They rarely call travel, and I can’t count the times i have seen this violation, (it also occurs when one palms the ball). They are getting better about watching the three second lane violation; but it still happens. I saw one instance of kicking the ball not called. Because apparently they changed that rule also. Time was any time the ball hit your foot it was kicking the ball. Apparently now it has to be deemed INTENTIONAL. Basketball used to be a no contact sport. Not so much anymore National Championship Minneapolis April 8 CBS Virginia Vs Texas Tech 20:30 This is where you can print your “OFFICE POOL” Bracket, Check the scores, etc. Yes I will have “MY PICKS” so you can compare your picks to mine. (And Laugh or Cry)I will have A “MASTER BRACKET”, “WHAT IF YOU CHOSE THE HIGH PICKS” for each game. Yes I will have MY PICKS. .An “UPSET” will be RED on “ALL HIGH PICKS” Bracket. GREEN indicate HIGH SEED Win What is a seed? Merely a starting place. Although unlikely, IT is possible for two 16 seeds to meet in the final game. Would lets say Michigan St were to be seeded as a number 16. They would still have to win all games to be CHAMPION ! SEEDING attempts to give a more favored team an easier path to the CHAMPIONSHIP. Seeding should lead to the best 2 teams playing in the final game. However there is always that upset minded team; or the chance that the favored team has a bad game, a stand out player is sick or injured. To print BRACKET: HOVER OVER SHEET. You will see a window at bottom with an arrow pointing down (second from right). Click this button. It will open a new window with the bracket then click the printer icon or go to file, and PRINT. NCAA Rule Changes For 2015 Season
This post will be short and to the point. Maybe too short to get anyone’s attention. The NCAA is excited about their rule changes. One change is the elimination of the 5 second closely guarded rule. I am not sure when they added the closely guarded rule. But in the days of REAL BASKETBALL. There was no such rule. Another change is the no touch rule. EXCUSE me but that was a rule many years ago. BASKETBALL, was meant to be a no contact sport. I am not sure if they made a rule saying it was okay to grab and/or keep a hand on your opponent. Or if they just decided not to enforce that rule. Some of the rules they don’t enforce are PALMING THE BALL, TRAVEL, and I cannot tell you how many times I have seen DOUBLE DRIBBLES. They talk of how much more control the players have of the ball as they come down the court. Let me explain as many of you don’t know how the rules WERE. Palming the ball is when the player puts his hand under the ball and turns it over as he dribbles. Watch. See how many times you see the players do this. You will see this when the ball handler is coming down the court, or executing a turn. Travel is anytime you make 2 steps while holding the ball. You are (or should I say were) allowed to move one foot as long as your pivot foot stayed anchored. If, for any reason your pivot foot moved, even a little slide. YOU TRAVELED. Double Dribble, Is anytime you either use both hands on the ball at the same time to dribble, or stop your dribble and then resume to dribble. This infraction you will see most often when a player chases down a ball and may dribble it, until he clears the opposition. He then will begin to dribble again. NOW, if only we could get them to enforce the GOAL TENDING rule. For those of you who do not know the definition of GOAL TENDING, this is it. GOAL TENDING: When a players hand or any body part enters the extended area directly above the rim. (As far as I know there is no height limit here it extends higher than any player could reach. AS YOU can see a DUNK is a direct violation of this rule. Any DUNK you will see the players hand is inside this extended area. Now not only is this a violation of the rule, It gives the OFFENSIVE DUNKER an unfair advantage. You see as a defender CANNOT put his hand in the area. Besides how much skill does it take for these 6’10” – over 7′ players to achieve this, They either don’t have to jump, or maybe a little hop. IF they want to allow this it should only be worth a single point. Due to the low skill level to accomplish this shot. Maybe less, perhaps a half point. After all it takes more skill to sink a free throw which only gets 1 point. I know the thrill I felt when I dunked the ball, I never got called for it because if they watch me in warm up I could not touch the rim, (lead feet), but with the adrenaline flowing during a close game, I could dunk the ball. Go figure. That Is How I See It. Views: 107
College Campus Basketball Games
Recently it was announced the Rivalry Between INDIANA UNIVERSITY, and their cross river Rival, the UNIVERSITY of KENTUCKY, will cease to be in the upcoming 2012-2013 Season. What? Say it isn’t so. ……But, alas it is. How did this happen? The way I understand it the University of Kentucky,( AKA, know as the minor league of the NBA), in it’s usual fashion of believing Basketball at UK is a business, only, situation. They see $$$$ ,(dollar signs), in this long enduring confrontation. Indiana University doesn’t. Yes folks, it all comes down to money, as so many things do. The University of Kentucky Wildcats, want to move the games from the home gyms, to an off Campus site which seats, more people, thus, more money to line the schools pockets. Indiana University, says, NO!!! The way the Hoosiers, of IU look at it is….This is a SCHOOL team. It should be played on the campuses, to allow all students the opportunity to watch and participate. By moving to an off Campus arena would require those students to drive or by some other means go arrive at the playing site, and thereby limiting overall school participation by those students who cannot travel. As for me I must take the Hurryin Hoosiers side on this. It is a school event and should therefore be played on campus. Yes the extra money would be nice…..but let us not lose sight of the fact. of which has been lost for some time in College, and some cases High School, SPORTS are intended merely to be an extension of the class room. There, believe it or not, are things that can only be learned in a sports setting. BUSINESS,or LEARNING experience? That Is How I See It What Do You Think? Take Our Poll [poll id=’1′] Views: 148
