NFL PICKS CONFIDENCE RANKING 11-15 THRU 11-18-2012
For those of you who do not know how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. If we were playing an office pool,(which we ARE NOT). The object is to score the most points. We use the Monday night game as a TIE BREAKER. The tie is broke by the closest to the total (that is the COMBINED score of the two participating tams) final score, without going over. If we were playing this is how my sheet would look; My pick will be in bold letters. you can use circling, underlining, or highlighting. I will show my correct points in Bold [table] GAME, CONFIDENCE,RUNNING SCORE 11/15 8:20 PM ET MIAMI 14 @ BUFFALO 19, 2 (HIT),2 11/18 1:00 PM ET PHILADELPHIA 14 @ WASHINGTON 31 ,3 (HIT),5 GREEN BAY 24 @DETROIT 20, 4 (miss) ARIZONA 19 @ ATLANTA 23,13 (HIT), 18 TAMPA BAY 27 @ CAROLINA 21 (OT),1 (miss), CLEVELAND 20 @ DALLAS 23 (OT),11 (HIT),29 N .Y. Peyton Manning To Denver
Just in. Jeff Saturday, Peyton Manning’s long time snapper. Will break up the duo and head to Green Bay Today it was announced that the former COLTS quarterback has decided to move to Denver. As it appears to me the Bronco fans seem so immersed in having Tim Tebow lead their team. One must wonder what their reaction will be. Will they welcome an aging. up the (and somewhat questionable health quarterback), or will they be Tebooing, the future hall of famer Peyton Manning. Their is talk of Colts snapper Jeff Saturday following Manning to Denver. Why break up a successful team? I question Manning’s decision to continue to play football and risk his health and possibly his life, to follow his wish to extend his playing career. After all of his surgeries he must think of himself as the “Six Million Dollar Man”. Better, Stronger, etc. But even though the doctors may say he is good to go….well we all know the fact a repair is not always as good as the original. I know during my later years I knew the time had come for me to retire from sports I really enjoyed. I made some money. (Less a year, than Manning gets probably from one play on the football field). But I had become a single parent and realized I owed my time to my children. I do not think Peyton Manning has given this much thought. What happens if he takes a severe hit and either ends up paralyzed or worse. What about his quality time with his children. I guess you could say I am just looking at this from a negative point of view. I think of it as a realistic point of view. For me money is a secondary, third concern. Family first. I would much rather have the memories of raising my children than the money I could have amassed. I wish him well with his career and his health. One last comment before I close. It is Peyton’s choice. I hope it is the correct one. Remember it took the Colts a few years to learn to play “Peyton Manning Offense”. Will he be able to play at Denver long enough to teach them to play “Peyton Manning Offense”? If he can will he be around long enough to capitalize on it? Good Luck Peyton. That Is How I See It. Colts 1st Round Draft Pick Is…..
With the professional football season over, for the INDIANAPOLIS COLTS. We have seen the end of the POLIAN ERA. The man who guided the COLTS, to the selection of PEYTON MANNING. The man who the past decade the COLTS have built their machine. But this year with the injured MANNING sitting OUT the season we saw the total collapse of the Indianapolis FRANCHISE and it was thunderous. I still think the nucleus of the team is intact; however some of that nucleus is beginning to become long in the tooth. (OLD). So there has to be some changes made throughout the team. The big mistake Polian made during those earlier years, to my way of thinking, was the signing of EDGERIN JAMES. Not that he was a terrible choice, BUT the BEST running back for the colts would have been Wisconsin’s RON DAYNE. It was too bad for all of professional football, when Dayne went to a team which did not like to run the ball. And the Great Dayne, was left rusting on the shelf. But why did the Colts falter so badly. Bill Polian and Jim Irsay, (yes he has to take some of the blame too. After all he is “THE BOSS”), failed to recognize the fact Manning, as he ages, and continues to play every snap, hurt or otherwise; could possibly miss some games. Therefore there was no backup plan. And who would want to be Manning’s backup? You never get to play. Maybe if you are lucky you might get to take 5-10 snaps a year. Now the COLTS have a new leader. Will he be able to right the ship? Will Mr. Irsay give him the power to do his job? Time will tell. Now to the matter of the FIRST ROUND PICK. With so many holes to be plugged, one must first determine, WHICH HOLE, is most needed to plug. At first glance it would appear the QB spot is of prime importance. Next we need to know, are we going with MANNING, or are we going to be seeking someone to take over the reins. Then what is our time line for the switch. I believe MANNING is a great leader, a masterful student of the game and of imparting his knowledge to his fellow teammates. I would not want him to leave the team. NOR, do I think he wants to leave the COLTS. But he knows what he can and can not do. Who would you draft if you decide to go for a QB? First you must look for the best fit for the team you have. (You can’t replace a whole team in one year. Oh I suppose you could if you can buy out everyone’s contract. But that is a bit unrealistic. I feel we have three quality candidates. STANFORD’S ANDREW LUCK. BAYLOR’S ROBERT GRIFFIN III. And WISCONSIN’S RUSSELL WILSON. Luck, of course is the nations choice. But is he the right man for the team. It all depends. What is the NEW GUARD of the COLTS looking for. Luck has the pedigree, but can he fit in and lead the team next year if necessary. Will he be satisfied to sit behind Manning. I personally don’t think so. I don’t know the boy, all I know about him is what the press says. (and we all know how the press can hype a player). Stanford is no pro team. (maybe). But when you move to the pro ranks it is a new game. CAN HE HANDLE THE CHANGE. Griffin III, winner of the Heisman Trophy, has shown his leadership skills, by leading a NON-POWER team to new heights. Again you have the same questions as with Luck. Wilson. We know he already has a professional contract to play baseball. He came to a new team and did an outstanding job of leading them in his first and only year with the BADGERS. For what it is worth this is my pick. Want someone who can come in and take over immediately? You must opt for Russell Wilson. If he can/or wants to opt out of his baseball contract. For Wilson, he can play baseball for 4-5 years for little pay. OR become an instant millionaire thru his quarterbacking skills. Want someone who is willing to follow MANNING, and learn from the master, with gradually increasing playing time. Then Robert Griffin III is your man. I think the COLTS need someone who can come in and take immediate charge. So there you have it. My number one pick would be Russell Wilson (if available) because I think the Colts need someone who is ready to take charge first game of the season. Given the same conditions, as above, if Wilson is not available then I would take Andrew Luck. Wanting some one to backup Manning and learn, and get gradual increasing snap, then Robert Griffin III is your man. That Is The Way I See It. UPDATE !!!!! January 13, About 6 hours ago from the time I am writing this; RUSSELL WILSON of the WISCONSIN BADGERS has announced he will forgo his baseball career with the COLORADO ROCKIES, in favor of a career in the NFL. Fair TAX???
As most sport fans know our professional sports players pay Federal Income Tax. They also pay State Tax. However did you know they pay the STATE TAX to the state they earn the money in. Not necessarily their home state. Let’s say a Eli Manning plays a game at Indianapolis. The money he earned for that game is taxed by the state of Indiana. (I can only assume local city, county, etc. taxes are also collected). Can you imagine the tax nightmare? Does he have to prepare a tax form for every state he earns money. Does this include personal appearances also? But here comes the rub. I recently read..Pius Heinz, a German poker player won $8,715,636.oo in the WORLD SERIES OF POKER, in Las Vegas TAX FREE !!!! Martin Stazko of the Czech Republic the second place finisher won $5,433,080.oo. Neither of these men will pay tax on any of this 14 million plus earnings. However third place winner, Ben Lamb a resident of the good old USA will have to pay approximately $1,524,011.oo on his $4,021039.oo Fourth place finisher Mark Gianetti, another USA Citizen won $3,012,700.oo but will have to surrender $1,524,642.oo to the Federal Government. Granted the 2 nd place winner will have to pay taxes in his native Czech Republic. Due to Germany’s tax exempt gambling law, Herr Heinz will pay NO TAXES. That is almost $14 million of U.S. Currency leaving the country, with no return to our treasury. Does anyone else see anything wrong with this? I sure do. This Is How I See It. Views: 893
Vick Given Second Chance
Remember Michael Vick the Outstanding young Quarterback who was drafted out of Virginia Tech as the Number One pick. by the Atlanta Falcons. Vick led the Falcons the playoffs twice during his six years in Atlanta. He was making BIG BUCKS. Living high. In 2007 he was implicated in an illegal dog fighting interstate ring. August 2007 he pled guilty to federal felony charges and served 21 months in prison, with two months on home detention. He lost practically everything, and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. I think I read where he was working construction, during his down time from the NFL. Earning about $20,000.oo a year with his construction job, was a drastic drop from his NFL earnings. His second chance came in 2009 when he signed a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles for a non-guaranteed $1.6 million. The in 2010 he received $5million. The 2011 season, (if played), Vick will receive between $16 and $17 million, I’m hoping Vick has truly learned has learned his lessons. 1. Public Image. 2. Fans made him. 3. He needs to give back to FANS not only on the field but off. AND. 4. The money won’t always be there. Live a little lower, and Invest wisely. Heck I could live very comfortably on what he makes for only one half of a quarter. That Is How I See It. Views: 132
NFL Lockout
As a SPORTS fan, let me chime in to say, an NFL Lockout or Strike would not be viable option. For one the team owners, players, and NFL in general are already OVERPAID. The economy could not absorb any further raises in revenue for these groups. I agree that extra games are nothing more than a money grab. But if they add more games where will it end. The NBA season already overlaps into the BASEBALL season. Football overlaps into the BASEBALL season. All seasons overlap. I was a huge Baseball fan. I watched the Chicago Cubs every afternoon on the Superstation WGN, I watched the Atlanta Braves whenever the CUBS weren’t on, and sometimes, I hate to admit this I sat up a second TV so I could watch when they were on at the same time. The BASEBALL STRIKE of 1994-1995 ended that streak. I have watched only one full game (CUBS) since then. I have only been to our local minor league teams game once. Before the strike it would be nothing to go a couple of times a week. I even got to know and sat with some of the players families. Yes I am only one person. But I have noticed many of my friends and acquaintances have had a similar reaction. This was the reason McQwire was in my opinion pushed along with other player to use steroids, Viewership hit such a low level MLB had to do something to grab the public’s attention. What better way than to use ‘livelier balls” and “super hitters”. Do I blame the players involved. Yes it was their choice. However, in their defense I think they were coerced in this move by MLB to regain interest in their industry. Now let us look at the NBA Lockout of 1998-1999. I again lost all interest in NBA. I had been a NBA fan an ABA fan. (I still prefer the old ABA). But I haven’t paid to see a game since the LOCKOUT. I don’t watch it on TV. I occasionally switch over during a commercial break to check the score of our local NBA team, just to get the score. But the NBA had to do the same thing as BASEBALL. To generate interest they had to create a SUPERPLAYER. A one time good player suddenly became a SUPERPLAYER, when he was no longer held to the rules. Let’s face how many people do you know can dunk the ball in a step and a jump from the 1o second line, or shove a player and get to shoot free throws. When some players got ejected from the game for an action, and he was free to do the same thing without any penalty. Yes their were more than one. But (I know) you who aren’t savvy on real basketball, will go up in arms. But the player I’m referencing is Michael Jordan. I’m not saying he wasn’t a good, maybe even better than average player before the lockout. But if you watch after the lockout you will see what I say is true. NBA marketing, just like the MLB got behind one player. Marketing is everything. You could take anything and with the proper marketing turn it into a SUPER WHATEVER. Who or What would be the hook to draw back fans if the the NFL does not play. That Is How I See It. Views: 137
NFL Tuesday Night Football
What is the NFL thinking? Football was created to play outside, in all kind of weather. But the NFL decided to postpone the Eagles Vs Viking game until Tuesday. This really ticks me off. I was looking forward to a real old fashion football game for a change. I really don’t like to watch the indoor games. Now I am not blaming the players. I’m sure they would have played if they were the ones to allowed to make the decision. But the NFL is in this protect the players mode right now, and they were probably thinking of the players. Maybe not. Maybe only that they may not sell out all the seats. That makes more sense, as they are so revenue conscious. I’ll bet the Lombardi led Packers were laughing their butts off about this call. When the NFL does things like this I think it would serve them right if everyone who had tickets for the SUNDAY game, asked for refunds. Some of these people have real jobs and may not be able to make an UNPLANNED Tuesday Night Football game. Will the Vikings be able to make the trek to Philadelphia again, or were they able to afford a stay in hotels. I think the fans should revolt and no one show up Tuesday. Wouldn’t that be a sight a game with only the Team members and vendors in the arena. I would love to see this. It would send a message to the NFL that without the FANS, they are out of business, and make them rethink the high cost of attendance. BOYCOTT Tuesday Night Football!!! One last thing regarding the Colts game Sunday. I know the media people say Manning’s slide was a really smart move. Baloney! He had an easy touchdown. just a step or two more. There would be no way Oakland could score enough points to win. I realize the Colts have had an injury prone season. But can we forget last year when they threw away a perfect season to protect players. I think the Colts are getting SOFT. If you are getting the money they are getting paid to put on a show. LET US HAVE A SHOW! BOYCOTT TUESDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL!!! That Is How I See It. Views: 106
Blame It On The Economy
Aren’t you tired of professional sports blaming their slumping attendance on the ECONOMY? I am. NASCAR claims their attendance is down because of the ECONOMY. Is it the Economy or is it just the fact they are losing their appeal. From what I have seen even the the TV viewership is down. That is not an ECONOMY issue. Just think what a Race Party you can have for the cost of the tickets. But, under the leadership of Helton and the heir of the France family, I personally believe it is the false, the ill-fated trust of the France heir, in Helton which has led to the downturn in FANBASE. First they wanted to separate themselves from the “redneck” heritage of the sport. Then they decided that people came only to watch their big name, well financed, drivers. So they gave them “SUPER STATUS”. Automatic starting positions, regardless of qualifying time. What this amounts to is they do not have to set up for qualifying, They just get more practice on their racing set up. Then came the “CHASE”. Big deal. All that accomplished was a HYPE point. No longer would the best performer throughout the season be champion. Now only, what is it, 12 drivers, get to compete. This after a reset of points. An example a driver could be in the top 10 of every race. But because he hasn’t won a race it is possible he may not make the “CHASE”, he probably will but if the Race winners were evenly spread among twelve racers, He would start so far behind the the others that he would not have a chance of winning. He may have won the Championship under the old system. We will never know. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Now they have the NASCAR’s car. Nothing related to the showroom car. Unless NASCAR decides to open up their own dealership and sell these cars. Wake up FORD, CHEVY, and TOYOTA. How much can a decal cost. Let us consumers have some of that money you invest in NON brand cars. You can probably make more money that way. I ask you is a decal with your name on it worth the millions you pay for it? NASCAR is seeing a steady drop in fanbase. Even on TV which is free. Most is not related to the Economy. But to the lack of entertainment value. As for the other sports. You have your STARS. You pay so much for. Do you really think they bring in that many people to see your TEAM. How many tickets do you have to sell to meet their Exorbitant pay. I remember a time One YANKEE player made more than the entire payroll of the Montreal Expos. What do they bring to the game that is so special. If you want to see real baseball watch your local Little League or High School team. You spend Millions promoting these players to make them seem to be supermen. Get real players and bring your cost down, so people can afford to attend games. I guess that is why the NBA, NFL, etc do not like the small venue teams. Usually in these areas you don’t have the Millionaires who can afford to attend the games. You will always have the die hard fans. That will somehow come up with the money to attend at least one game. Let’s see. A family of four, 2 Adults, 2 children. At an average of $60 dollars a ticket, that is $240. Plus an average of $20 to park. We are now up to $260 to see millionaires play a simple game. Usually attending a game means souvenirs for the children. A cheap souvenir usually costs $10, that takes us to $280 for the game. Lets not forget snacks. Usually $5 for popcorn, that is a lot of markup. Drinks for the kids which usually cost $4 ea. Beer for Mom and Dad. Minimum of $5 ea. So we now have spent $38 for snacks. Raising our cost to $318. Many times in order to take in a game we eat out. Even at Burger King that is at least a $20 bill. Now we are at $338 to watch players who make more for one game than we will in 1 to 3 months. Blame the drop on the Economy? Some teams have acted on this and dropped their ticket prices and snack price. They are gaining Fanbase. This will result in more licensed paraphernalia sale, and as the economy picks up this income will grow. Wake up Owners and Players. I am a Union Man. I understand players want to get as much as they can. Owners you want a larger profit. I understand this. But what you don’t understand is you can price yourelves totally out of business. Isn’t it better to make $20 on one ticket and have 38000 people attend, or $4o and only have 18000 people attend. The 38000 will spend more on lower cost accesories than the 18000. Both be reasonable. Fanbase is the key to profits That Is How I See It. Views: 97
