NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS WEEK 6 10/16-18-19/2022
WHEW !!! What a nightmare week I had. Really hope you did better. Would be hard to do worse. BEST I did was only being off 3pts from the total score. Sunday 10/16/22: I don’t like the way this week is going. Looks like the WEEK OF THE UNDERDOG. I am looking at my worst week in all my years of playing this confidence game. SEAHAWKS: HC Pete Carroll said the team is working through a change in Kick Off time with the Arizona Cardinals to avoid a conflict of time with a possible 4th game Seattle Mariners against the Houston Astros. The 2 stadiums are within a 3 block radius of each other. Which would make a huge crowd of people in a small area. No word yet as how this will play out. Regarding the question I had last week, (when is a QB a passer). I found the answer (as it may be). Rule 12, Article 11, Paragraph B When tackling a passer who is in a DEFENSELSS POSTURE, (e.g . DURING or JUST AFTER throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unessarlily throw him down or land on top of him with all or most of the defenders weight. Instead the defensive player must strive to fall to the side of the quarterbacks body, or BRACE his fall with his arms to avoid landing on the quarterback with all or most of his body weight. In the case of the Brady take down. According to the rules he was neither passing or just after the pass. THIS takes away the defenseless portion of the rule, as Brady was not PASSING. NOR was it JUST AFTER throwing a pass, Brady was scrambling. The defender did everything in his power to protect the quarterback. He not only braced the fall with his arms, he actually rolled under him to help break the fall of the quarterback. in other words he did everything correctly and was punished for it. STRIVE: To devote serious effort. I could strive to be a millionaire. Little chance of that. But perhaps I do strive to be a millionaire. I occasionally buy a lottery ticket. What I am saying is you can try to do something, but not really succeed. Again another opinion , much to the referee’s ability to read the mind of the player. SOMETIMES it is pretty obvious. In these cases NFL protects themselves, by not calling them ‘opnions”, they are deemed “JUDGEMENT” calls. See how one word can change the entire meaning of an idea? You may have noticed I stressed “unessarlily“. Unessarilly is a relevent term. I can safely say for me to stop a player would take a lot more NESESSARY action than it would for a 250#-300# man. So as you see. A referee could look at a play and then has to determine if the DEFENDER could have used less force to down the player. (Entirely an opinon not a fact. For those of you who don’t remember. Before the new media # before a number, just meant the same as saying number whatever. When it followed a number it meant pound. BUCCANEERS: Tom Brady was fined $11, 139.oo for kicking Grady Jarrett – the DT who was called for “UNNESSARY ROUGHNESS” as Jarrett was getting up. REFEREE was looking right at the action. Perhaps the REF needs to see an eye doctor. He sees a nonexistent Unnessary Roughness calls, BUT not the KICK. Appears to me the only Unnecessary Roughness was on the behalf of the KICKER. not on the TACKLER. Seems to me Kicking a player is more Unnecessary than a textbook tackle. Feeling generous, maybe the Ref threw the flag for the KICK, then got confused and couldn’t remember why he threw the flag. Or was it because Tom Brady would never do anything wrong? I believe the officials should be given at least a 1 game suspension for obvious “BAD CALLS”. For those of you who are new here. This is how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. If we were playing an office pool,(which we ARE NOT). The object is to score the most points. To obtain the score YOU rank the teams by how confident you are a team will win its game. EXAMPLE: Say this week we have 16 games. The team you are most confident will win you would assign the number 16 and follow down to the team you are least confident in and assign that number 1. You add up the TOTAL CORRECT PICKS.. That would be your score. We use the Monday night (Last game played) as a TIE BREAKER. The tie is broken by the closest to the total (that is the COMBINED score of the two participating teams) final score, without going over. YOU can adopt the scoring described above. Or, the optional method. A negative score for missed games. We will continue to get a positive score for correct predictions. EXAMPLE: if you scored 1 pt on the first game and you had 15 pts on the second game and lost you would still have 1 pt. 1. HOWEVER. with the same scenario new scoring system would result with a –14 score If we were playing this is how my sheet would look; My pick will be in bold Capital letters. you can use circling, underlining, or highlighting. I will show my correct points in Bold I will fill in my picks Thursday. Until then feel free to: Just copy and paste for your own Fun Pool Use. Or to see if you can beat me. NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS WEEK 5 10/06-09-10/2022
Panthers: Fire HC Matt Rhule. BENGALS: FIRST team in NFL history to lose three of its first five games of a season on the final play of those losses. ONE QUESTION; Y’all? Will the REFS Continue to protect Tom Brady all season? Last week they allowed him about 5 seconds total after the clock wound down on back to back plays to snap the ball, (granted they did call the second one but not until at least 3 seconds after the clock hit ZERO . This week they call a roughing the passer on textbook sack. It was very apparent that there was no intent to hurt him. Hands around the waist, rolling under him, He was down before he even touched the ground. There have been many other calls that weren’t quite on the up and up. But you have to remember things like the underinflated balls against the Colts a few years back. I’m not saying Tom Brady is not a good QB, JUST that it seems he has always had the powers that been in the NFL as a favored son status. It would appear the OLD man doesn’t have what it takes to stand on his own. (My Opinion. You have the right to yours). But can you back it up. Perhaps he should have remained, RETIRED. Question does a QB become a passer? When he gets the ball in his hand? When he has his hand up in a passing position? When he hands off to another player. (no wait, that isn’t a pass). When he brings the ball down and tucks the ball in a running position? (No that would make him a runner). Maybe when he is running around looking for more time to throw? I have it !! Anytime he has the ball in his hands. He is ASSUMED to be a passer, as long as he is behind the line of scrimmage. Yeah that’s right. Just like my son in high school got called for ROUGHING THE KICKER. Even though the kicker tucked the ball and took a running step. We now have ONE undefeated team, the PHILADELPHIA EAGLES !!! FINALLY we have a legitimate HOME KING.. Aaron Judge. The FIRST, (as far I Know), since Roger Maris hit his record of 61 home runs in a season, WITHOUT the use of STEROIDS !!! Way to go Aaron !!! SIDENOTE: I don’t know maybe Sammy Sosa. After all he just took “FLINTSTONE VITAMINS”. They seem to have worked as you could see he bulked up just like Mcquire and Bonds. (But they needed steroids”. NOTE: Early Sunday morning game. For those of you who are new here. This is how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. If we were playing an office pool,(which we ARE NOT). NFL CONFIDENCE WEEK 2 09/15-18-19/2022
Sorry about all the delays. Still having problems with WP and they don’t seem eager to correcting the problems they created in the last 2 updates. Looking for a suitable replacement. I don’t know about you. But I did not miss TNF. It just does not make sense for me to pay all that money, when my favorite team may only play TNF one time a year. Next thing you will have to subscribe to Apple TV to watch a game, then ROKU, then HULU, and who knows how many subscriptions you will have. JUST to watch your favorite team play maybe 1 game a year. I enjoyed the Bears game Sunday. Call me old fashioned, but I like the old time style games inclement weather and all PLAYED OUTDOORS. Like it was meant to be. Although I am still a Russell Wilson fan; and have been since his college days. I still enjoy watching him play. But, as you know I was really disappointed by his defection to the Broncos, SO i was pleased they lost last night, and wish them the same results the rest of the season. I knew it was time for he and Pete Carrol to part ways. The only worst teams he could have defected to would be a Florida team. NOTE: TNF (Thursday Night Football will be broadcast on PRIME VIDEO. To watch TNF you will be required to have a subscription to Prime Video. (This is the way I read it. If I am wrong let me know so I can watch TNF also. From what I read you have 2 options. 1. An Amazon Prime account. Cost: $14.99 a month or $139 a year. 2 . A Prime Video membership at $8.99 a month. I feel you would really want to watch 1 NFL game a week to pay this much. (As for me I can not see paying for a single game a week, which I will most likely fall asleep before it ends. I usually do on Sunday, and Monday games. I usually fall asleep sometime during the game; sometimes I wake up to see the final minutes, MOST of the time I don’t. I feel like the NFL has done a dis-service to its fans. NFL already has a pay per view in its NFL + app available for streaming for $9.99 a month which allows you to watch out of market games also. For those of you who are new here. This is how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. If we were playing an office pool,(which we ARE NOT). The object is to score the most points. NFL WEEK 1 09/08-11-12/2022 with RULE CHANGES IN 2022 SEASON
Welcome to our 11 th year doing these Confident picks. NOTE: Former WASHINGTON REDSKINS/FOOTBALL TEAM, is now known by the name WASHINGTON COMMANDERS. (If you aren’t interested in the rule changes I found. Please scroll down for this weeks PICK SHEET) These are the only ones I could find. There could be others. Overtime playoff rules The most important rules changes in 2022 relate to overtime playoff rules. NFL overtime rules have been controversial for several years. That controversy boiled over last season when the Chiefs beat the Bills in overtime without Buffalo touching the ball despite leading with 13 seconds left in regulation. That will no longer be possible starting with the 2022 playoffs, although it’s important to keep in mind that overtime in regulation will not be changed. These alterations will only come into play during the playoffs. First, both teams will get at least one chance to possess the ball in overtime unless the first drive of overtime ends in a defensive safety. After both teams have had one possession, if one team has more points, they are the winner. If the game remains tied after both teams have possessed the ball, the next score will win the game. Meanwhile, if the 15-minute period expires with the score tied or the second team’s initial possession still ongoing, another 15-minute period will be played. That means the team that possesses the ball second doesn’t have to worry about the clock. They just have to make sure that the game is at least tied at the end of their initial overtime possession. Also, if there are multiple overtime periods, the teams will switch sides after the first and third overtime periods. The timing rules for the second overtime period are the same as the second quarter of regulation and the timing rules for the fourth overtime period are the same as the fourth quarter of regulation. Roster cut down There will also be some adjustments to the preseason roster cutdown in 2022. At the start of training camp, teams can have 90 players on their roster, or 91 if they have an international roster. On August 16, following the first full week of preseason games, rosters must be cut to 85 players. On August 23, following the second full week of preseason games, rosters should be cut to 80 players. By August 30, rosters should be cut to 53 players, which is the roster limit during the regular season. Extended ramp-up period During training camp in 2022, the NFL has increased how much time teams can practice in full-speed sessions, meaning no restrictions for wearing pads or hitting. On August 16, following the first full week of preseason games, rosters must be cut to 85 players. On August 23, following the second full week of preseason games, rosters should be cut to 80 players. By August 30, rosters should be cut to 53 players, which is the roster limit during the regular season. During training camp in 2022, the NFL has increased how much time teams can practice in full-speed sessions, meaning no restrictions for wearing pads or hitting. Free kick formation The experimental rule changes on free kicks that were tested during the 2021 season have been approved and made permanent. It dictates that before the ball is kicked on a free kick, all 11 players on the receiving team should be lined up inbounds and behind their restraining line. Meanwhile, a minimum of eight players but a maximum of nine players should be standing between their restraining line and 15 yards behind their restraining line. This area is referred to as the setup zone. Injured Reserve rules For diehard fans who track injuries closely and keep tabs on players who are added to the injured reserve (IR) list, there are some notable changes in 2022. During the past two seasons, the NFL allowed an unlimited number of players to return to the active roster from IR. But this was done primarily to help players deal with the pandemic and the unpredictable nature of COVID cases. However, only eight players on each team will be allowed to return from IR to the active roster. Individual players can be moved from IR to the active roster a maximum of two times during the season. But that player will count twice toward the limit of eight. Meanwhile, the time frame that a player must stay on IR has increased. Recently, any player placed on IR had to stay there for a minimum of three weeks before being eligible to return to the active roster. In 2022, that time frame has increased to four weeks, making it a little more challenging for teams to place a player with a short-term injury on IR. Practice Squad management The size of NFL practice squads is growing in 2022. Teams can now have up to 16 practice squad players, which is up from 12. Of those 16 players, six can be veterans with no restrictions on how long a player has been in the league to qualify for the practice squad. The veteran limit was also six years last year, but the increase is now permanent from four veterans on the practice squad in 2020. Meanwhile, teams can elevate practice squad players to the active roster up to three times during the season without them needing to pass through waivers, making them available to the rest of the league. On game days, up to two players from the practice squad can be placed on the active roster and then returned to the practice squad the following day without being exposed to waivers. Of course, if two players from the practice squad are elevated on game day, seven players must be deactivated from the roster to ensure there are only 48 active players listed 90 minutes before kickoff. estricted Free Agent. NFL WILD CARD CONFIDENCE PICKS 01/15-16-17/2021
I really don’t like doing these play off games. It is so hard to tell if a lower rank team will play over their head. Or a higher ranked team will be over confident and play badly. Then you have the reason it is called “WILD CARD”. The officials. The most unpredictable people on the field. Of course they have many things they are trying to watch for at the same time. But I really think, sometimes, it depends on their attitude at game time, which may change at any time, even several times during a game. (BUT it does seem they always favor the HOME team. VIKINGS: Fire HC: Mike Zimmer and GM: Rick Spielman DOLPHINS: Fire HC: Brian Flores GIANTS: Fire HC: Joe Judge TEXANS: Fire HC: David Cully WASHINGTON: Is considering a name change, (vacating their prior name, which was, as i see it; a tribute to our Native American heritage. I don’t really get the RED “skin”, part. But, a tribute to the way our Native American’s way of life. The way they fought for their land and lifestyle ). Would we not be of the same mindset if we were invaded, with our land and lifestyle at stake. Most likely not. HOWEVER. (warning, political statement ahead I am neither REPUBLiCAN, nor DEMOCRAT. i have no political affilitation in any way shape or form. I do not find a place for POLITICS in the governing of our U.S.A.) Football is like a small war. The football is a “BOMB”, with one team trying to drop the “BOMB”, in the rival’s base territory, (the goal line). Part of the war is to strike fear in the hearts of the opponents. MY OPINION: What could bring more terror in the hearts of anyone??? The Washington PELOSIS.! Of course they would be left looking for another name after she is dispensed with. I do think their new name should reflect the area they are in. Washington once had a MLB team named SENATORS. Perhaps the name “CAPITOLS” ? NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS WEEK 18 NFL 01/09/2021
BRONCOS: Fire HC: Vic Fangio. TITANS: Clinch AFC Number 1 seed. JAGUARS: Secure 1st overall draft pick. STEELERS: LB: T.J. Watt tied Michael Strahan’s single season SACK record of 22.5. BEARS: Fire GM: Ryan Pace and HC: Matt Nagy.
