Cleveland Browns: One of the NFL’s Most Historic Franchises: The Cleveland Browns are one of the most distinctive franchises in professional football. Founded in 1946 as a member of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC), the Browns immediately established themselves as a football powerhouse. They won the AAFC championship in all four seasons of that league’s existence before joining the National Football League in 1950. Their success continued in the NFL. Cleveland reached the NFL Championship Game in each of its first six NFL seasons and won championships in 1950, 1954 and 1955. The Browns added another NFL championship in 1964, giving the franchise four NFL championships. Including their four AAFC titles, Cleveland has won eight league championships. The Browns’ history includes legendary players such as Otto Graham, Jim Brown, Lou Groza, Marion Motley, Ozzie Newsome and Otto Graham, Jim Brown, Lou Groza, Marion Motley, Ozzie Newsome, along with Hall of Fame coach and franchise founder Paul Brown. Paul Brown The Browns began play in 1946 in the AAFC. Businessman Arthur “Mickey” McBride was the principal owner, and he hired Paul Brown as head coach and general manager. Paul Brown quickly built the Browns into a revolutionary football organization. He emphasized year-round coaching, systematic scouting, film study, playbooks and detailed preparation. His Browns won four consecutive AAFC championships from 1946 through 1949. When the AAFC folded, Cleveland entered the NFL in 1950. The Browns immediately proved they belonged. In their first NFL season, they went to the championship game and defeated the Los Angeles Rams to win the NFL championship. Cleveland continued to dominate throughout the early 1950s. Cleveland Browns Owners The Browns have had several ownership eras since their founding. Arthur “Mickey” McBride — 1946–1952 Arthur B. McBride was the original owner and one of the principal figures responsible for bringing professional football back to Cleveland after World War II. McBride hired Paul Brown to build the franchise. The decision proved enormously important, as Brown established one of the most successful organizations in early professional football. David Jones and Ellis Ryan — 1953–1960 Ownership changed in the early 1950s, with David Jones and Ellis Ryan holding ownership interests in the club. Jones served as president and became the majority owner, while Ryan remained a partial owner. Art Modell — 1961–1995 Arthur B. “Art” Modell purchased the Browns in 1961 for approximately $4 million. Modell owned the team for more than three decades. During his ownership, Cleveland won the 1964 NFL Championship, led by Jim Brown and a strong defense. Modell’s ownership ultimately became one of the most controversial chapters in Browns history. In 1995, he announced plans to move the franchise to Baltimore. The NFL and the city of Cleveland subsequently reached an agreement that preserved the Browns’ name, colors and history in Cleveland. The Baltimore organization became a new franchise, the Ravens, while Cleveland received an expansion Browns team beginning in 1999. NFL Trust — 1996–1998 Following the move announcement and before the new Browns returned to the field, the inactive Cleveland franchise was held in an NFL trust. Cleveland did not field a team during the 1996–1998 seasons. Al Lerner — 1999–2001 Al Lerner became the owner of the re-established Cleveland Browns. Under Lerner, the Browns returned to the NFL in 1999 and moved into a newly constructed stadium on the same general lakefront site where the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium had stood. Randy Lerner — 2002–2011 Randy Lerner, Al Lerner’s son, took over ownership following his father’s death. The Browns made the playoffs in 2002 during the Lerner era, their first postseason appearance since returning to the NFL. Jimmy and Dee Haslam — 2012–present Jimmy Haslam and Dee Haslam purchased the Browns in 2012. The NFL approved the sale in October 2012. The Haslams remain the controlling owners of the franchise. In 2025, Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive back Charles Woodson became a limited partner in the Browns’ ownership group, the first minority owner added since the Haslams became controlling owners. Every Stadium the Browns Have Called Home Cleveland Municipal Stadium — 1946–1995 The Browns’ original and longest-serving home was Cleveland Municipal Stadium, commonly called Municipal Stadium or Cleveland Stadium. The Browns played there from their 1946 AAFC debut through the 1995 season. They also occasionally played games at the smaller League Park during their earliest seasons, particularly before 1947. Municipal Stadium was the setting for many of the greatest moments of the early Browns dynasty, including championship games and the Browns’ 1964 NFL championship season. Browns home: 1946–1995 League Park — Early Browns Home Games Although Cleveland Municipal Stadium was the principal Browns home, League Park was also used during the early AAFC years. The Browns played weekday games at League Park during their earliest seasons, while larger crowds were accommodated at Municipal Stadium for weekends and holidays. Browns use: primarily 1946–1947 Cleveland Browns Stadium — 1999–2012 and 2023–2024 After Cleveland received the re-established Browns franchise, a new stadium was constructed on the site of the former Municipal Stadium. Kansas scraped by for the win last night. It wasn’t bad enough, Chiefs returner Nikko Remigio had broken through their coverage, hitting the open field and racing toward the end zone covering 63 yards on the opening kick. BUT Teans CB. Kris Boyd tracked him down, caught him and stripped the ball loose, however the ball was surrounded by red shirts, and maybe a couple of Texans. Out manned the Chiefs swiftly recovered the ball. (A BAD OMEN for the Texans). Adding to the drama Boyd threw his helmet leading to a penalty then starting to push his coach. Not a good thing. Coach was not on the field to recover the FUMBLE. Still the Texans stayed in the game. Had Houston ZH had a FG kicker with them they might have had a chance to win. Had Houston have a kicker. jake Bates missed two FIELD GOALS. And one Extra point. ( As I recall, all off to the right. That is 7 missed ;what should have been 7 sure.point. Too many momentum changes missed. The score should have been tied and go into OT…..OF COURSE YOU STII MUST TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE OBLIGATORY BAD CALLS FAVORING MAHOMES AND COMPANY. How the Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for Super Bowl LVIII
[wpcdt-countdown id=”15138″] [adrotate group=”1″] The Kansas City CHIEFS are back in the Super Bowl for the third time in four years, and they are ready to take on the San Francisco 49ERS in a rematch of Super Bowl LIV. The CHIEFS are coming off a thrilling comeback win over the Baltimore Baltimore RAVENS in the AFC Championship Game, while the 49ERS cruised past the Green Bay PACKERS in the NFC title game. Both teams have high-powered offenses, stingy defenses, and charismatic coaches, making this a must-watch matchup for any football fan. But how are the CHIEFS preparing for the biggest game of the year? Here are some of the key factors that will shape their game plan and performance in SUPER BOWL LVIII. Staying healthy and focused One of the biggest challenges for any team heading into the Super Bowl is staying healthy and focused amid the hype and distractions of the week. The CHIEFS have been dealing with some injuries to key players, such as RB: Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and LB: Willie Gay Jr., who missed some practice time during the bye week. However, HC: Andy Reid said he expects all of them to be ready for the game2. The CHIEFS are also trying to avoid any COVID-19 issues, as the pandemic is still a major concern for the NFL and the world. The team has been following strict protocols and testing procedures, and has not reported any positive cases among players or staff in the past two weeks. The CHIEFS are also limiting their travel and media obligations, as they will fly to Las Vegas on Saturday, the day before the game, and conduct most of their interviews virtually. Studying the 49ers and learning from the past The CHIEFS have a lot of respect for the 49ers, who are one of the most balanced and talented teams in the league. The 49ers have a dynamic offense led by QB: Brock Purdy,, RB: Christian McCaffrey, and TE: George Kittle, who can attack the CHIEFS defense in multiple ways. The 49ers also have a ferocious defense anchored by DE: Nick Bosa, LB: Fred Warner, and CB: Richard Sherman, who can pressure and disrupt the CHIEFS offense. The CHIEFS are well aware of the 49ers’ strengths and weaknesses, as they faced them in Super Bowl LIV, where the CHIEFS rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win 31-20.. The CHIEFS are studying the film from that game, as well as the 49ers’ recent games, to find any tendencies, patterns, or opportunities that they can exploit. The CHIEFS are also learning from their own mistakes and successes, as they have improved in several areas since last year, such as run defense, red zone offense, and special teams. Trusting Patrick Mahomes and the offense The CHIEFS have one of the most explosive and versatile offenses in NFL history, and it all starts with their superstar QB:, Patrick Mahomes. the reigning Super Bowl MVP and the frontrunner for this year’s award, as he has thrown for 4,740 yards, 38 touchdowns, and six interceptions in the regular season, and added 580 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception in the postseason. Mahomes has a plethora of weapons at his disposal, such as Kittle, ,WR: Mecole Hardman, and TE: Travis Kelce, who all can make big plays and stretch the field. The CHIEFS are confident in their offense, and they are not afraid to be aggressive and creative with their play-calling. Reid and OC: Eric Bieniemy have shown a knack for designing and executing innovative plays, such as the jet chip wasp, the underhand shovel pass, and the speed option, that catch the defense off guard and result in touchdowns. The CHIEFS are also not afraid to overcome adversity, as they have proven time and again that they can come back from any deficit and score in bunches. Relying on the defense and the leaders The CHIEFS defense may not get as much attention as their offense, but it is equally important and impressive. The CHIEFS defense ranked 10th in the league in points allowed per game (22.6), 14th in yards allowed per game (358.3), and sixth in turnovers forced (22) in the regular season. The CHIEFS defense also stepped up in the playoffs, holding the Cleveland Browns to 17 points and the Ravens to 24 points, and making crucial stops and turnovers in both games. The CHIEFS’ defense is led by defensive coordinator DC: Steve Spagnuolo, who has a reputation for devising effective game plans and schemes against elite offenses, such as the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII and the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV. The CHIEFS defense also has several leaders and playmakers, such as DT: Chris Jones, DE: Frank Clark, can make an impact on any given play. Conclusion The CHIEFS are ready for Super Bowl LVIII, and they are determined to repeat as champions and cement their legacy as one of the best teams ever. The CHIEFS have the talent, the coaching, the experience, and the motivation to win the game, and they are not taking anything for granted. The CHIEFS know that the 49ers are a formidable opponent, and they are preparing accordingly. The CHIEFS are confident, but not cocky, and they are focused, but not nervous. The CHIEFS are ready to play their best game of the year, and they are ready to make history. Views: 156
SUPER BOWL LVIII (58) A REMATCH FOR THE AGES
[adrotate group=”1″] [wpcdt-countdown id=”15138″] Super Bowl LVIII (58) will be played on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two teams that will compete for the title are the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, who met in Super Bowl LIV in 2020, with the Chiefs winning 31-20. The halftime show will feature Usher, a Grammy-winning R&B singer and dancer2. You can watch the game on CBS or Nickelodeon, or stream it on Paramount+1. The biggest game of the year is almost here. On Sunday, February 11, 2024, the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will face off in Super Bowl 58 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the second time these two teams will meet in the Super Bowl, after the Chiefs defeated the 49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV in 2020. Will the Chiefs repeat their victory, or will the 49ers get their revenge? Here are some key factors to consider before the game. THE QUARTER BACKS Super Bowl 58 will feature a showdown between two of the best quarterbacks in the league: Patrick Mahomes of the CHIEFS and Brock Purdy of the 49’ERS. Mahomes, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, has been sensational this season, leading the league in passing yards (5,472), touchdowns (48), and passer rating (117.9). He has also shown his ability to make clutch plays with his arm and his legs, especially in the playoffs, where he led the Chiefs to comeback wins over the TEXANS and the RAVENS. Mahomes is looking to become the first quarterback to win back-to-back Super Bowls since Tom Brady in 2004 and 2005. Purdy, on the other hand, is a newcomer to the Super Bowl stage, but he has proven himself to be a worthy contender. The second-year pro, who was drafted by the 49’ERS in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, has had a breakout season, throwing for 4,316 yards, 35 touchdowns, and only nine interceptions. He has also displayed his mobility and toughness, rushing for 421 yards and seven touchdowns, and overcoming a shoulder injury that sidelined him for two games in the regular season. Purdy has been impressive in the postseason, leading the 49ers to dominant wins over the Lions and the Rams, and outplaying veteran quarterbacks Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers. Both Mahomes and Purdy have plenty of weapons at their disposal, such as CHIEFS Receiver Rashee Rice. TE: Travis Kelce. RB: Isiah Pacheco 49’ers have WR Deebo Samuel, TE George Kittle. and RB Christian McCaffrey. The Super Bowl 58 could very well come down to which quarterback can make the most plays and avoid the most mistakes. THE DEFENSE While the Super Bowl 58 is expected to be a high-scoring affair, the defenses of both teams should not be overlooked. The CHIEFS and the 49’ERS have two of the most balanced and talented defenses in the league, ranking in the top 10 in both points allowed and yards allowed per game. Both teams also have some of the best pass rushers and playmakers in the league, The CHIEFS have DT: Chris Jones, LB: Frank Clark. For the 49’ERS , DL: Nick Bosa, and LB: Fred Warner. The CHIEFS defense has improved significantly since last year, when they ranked 17th in points allowed and 20th in yards allowed per game. Under defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, the CHIEFS have become more aggressive and opportunistic, forcing 28 turnovers (tied for third in the league) and scoring four defensive touchdowns (tied for second in the league). The CHIEFS defense has also stepped up in the playoffs, holding the TEXANS and the RAVENS to 20 and 17 points, respectively, and generating six turnovers and seven sacks. The 49’ERS defense has been dominant all season long, ranking second in points allowed (17.1 per game) and fourth in yards allowed (304.9 per game). The 49’ERS‘ defense is led by their fearsome front four, which features Bosa, Arik Armstead, DeForest Buckner, and Dee Ford. The 49’ERS defense has recorded 54 sacks (second in the league) and 27 turnovers (tied for fifth in the league). The 49’ERS defense has also been dominant in the playoffs, holding the LIONS and the RAMS to 13 and 10 points, respectively, and generating five turnovers and nine sacks. Both defenses will have their hands full trying to stop the explosive offenses of their opponents. The key for both defenses will be to pressure the quarterbacks, disrupt the timing of the passing game, and force turnovers. THE COACHES Super Bowl 58 will also feature a rematch between two of the best coaches in the league: Andy Reid of the CHIEFS and Kyle Shanahan of the 49’ERS. Reid, who won his first Super Bowl last year, is one of the most respected and successful coaches in NFL history, with a career record of 238-140-1. He is known for his offensive genius, his innovative play-calling, and his ability to develop quarterbacks. Reid has also shown his adaptability and resilience, overcoming several challenges and controversies throughout his career. Shanahan, who lost his first Super Bowl as a head coach last year, is one of the most promising and creative coaches in the league, with a career record of 36-28. He is known for his offensive brilliance, his scheme versatility, and his knack for finding and maximizing talent. Shanahan has also shown his determination and leadership, turning the 49ers from a 4-12 team in 2018 to a 12-5 team in 2023. Both Reid and Shanahan have assembled strong coaching staffs, with coordinators. CHIEFS STAFF: HC :Andy Reid. 11 years as CHIEFS HC. Asst. Coach/Special Teams: Dave Toub. OC: Matt Nagy, DC: Steve Spagunolo. Pass Coordinator: Joe Bleymaier. Statistical Analysis Coordinator: Mike Frazier. QB Coach, David Girardi 49’ERS STAFF: HC: Kyle Shanahan. NFL OFFICIAL: Art McNally, 97 died Sunday of natural causes. McNally an on field official for 9 years, including 1960-1967. Following which he was hired by the NFL to become Supervisor of Officials. During his term in this position he ushered in the INSTANT REPLAY. He over saw the training and technology used in the faster more technology complicated game. Bills / BENGALS GAME POSTPONED: Latest update Damar Hamlins is listed in Critical NFLCondition. Officially Hamlin suffered Cardiac Arrest. (Cardiac arrest usually results from an electrical disturbance in the heart. It’s not the same as a heart attack). UPDATE: Hsmlin vital signs back to normal. They have put him to sleep with a breathing tube down his throat. The Monday Night Football game between Buffalo and Cincinnati has been POSTPONED after Bills Safety Damar Hamlin. Hamlin 24 went down after tackling Bengals WR Tee Higgins, with 5:58 left in the 1st quarter. He He took a few steps then collapsed. It appeared medical personnel were giving him CPR. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital. No word on when or if the game will be resumed. Our prayers are with Damar Hamlin. So far the only scheduled game for week 18 are for Saturday. Chiefs @ Chargers 16:30 on ESPN/ABC. At 20:15 we will have Titans @ Jaguars also on ESPN/ABC. No other games scheduled time wise. Although we know the pairings time, date, and network remain unscheduled at this time. NO BYES . . OFF THE SUBJECT OF NFL: WNBA. CONVICTED of drug TRAFFICKING, and sentenced to NINE years of prison. PHOENIX MERCURYS, PRIVILEGED player will RECEIVE Full Pay for a season not played .and league credit just as if played. Making eligible for free agency for the 2023 season. If another player was found to merely using drugs, they would have been at suspended for some amount of time, along with a fine. BUT, some people are just PRIVILEGED, and the rules that apply to others is ABOVE the rules. COLTS: Regardless of the terrible mess GM Chris Ballard has done. Colts owner Jim Irsay says, he’s my man. He will be back for next season. The one decision I have no opinion on so far is maintaning Jeff Saturday as next years HC. (Saturday is still up in the air.) I would like to see how he does without someone like Ballard making all the player calls, and I am sure other things he has his thumb on. I’m sure if Saturday had his say Ehlinger would have been playing instead of Ryan and Foles.. However with Ballard in the BIG seat. Not doing what needs to be done to form a team. Saturday will look like the scapegoat. Thus protecting Irsay’s BUDDY; BALLARD. The thing is how long does Jim Irsay want to continue fielding losing teams. COLTS: Benched Matt Ryan in favor of an aging Nick Foles. Benching Ryan makes sense; should have been done way earlier. In fact I can see no reason for the Colts to have signed him to begin with. But, putting that aside, would it not make more sense to give the young Sam Ehlinger playing time. Doing so would give him a better chance to prove himself. Even if the Colts keep him as a backup QB. He would have game experience if called upon during the next season. Or give other teams a chance to appraise him for a trade. Sometimes I think COMMON SENSE, is an unknown commodity among the Colts organization. I am not terribly impressed with any of the college QBs this year. For all practical purposes the Colts season is over. Give Ehlinger a chance! Views: 127
NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS WEEK 3 09/22-25-26/2022
For those of you who are new here. This is how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. If we were playing an office pool,(which we ARE NOT). The object is to score the most points. To obtain the score YOU rank the teams by how confident you are a team will win its game. EXAMPLE: Say this week we have 16 games. The team you are most confident will win you would assign the number 16 and follow down to the team you are least confident in and assign that number 1. You add up the TOTAL CORRECT PICKS.. That would be your score. We use the Monday night (Last game played) as a TIE BREAKER. The tie is broken by the closest to the total (that is the COMBINED score of the two participating teams) final score, without going over. YOU can adopt the scoring described above. Or, the optional method. A negative score for missed games. We will continue to get a positive score for correct predictions. EXAMPLE: if you scored 1 pt on the first game and you had 15 pts on the second game and lost you would still have 1 pt. 1. HOWEVER. with the same scenario new scoring system would result with a –14 score If we were playing this is how my sheet would look; My pick will be in bold Capital letters. you can use circling, underlining, or highlighting. I will show my correct points in Bold I will fill in my picks Thursday. Until then feel free to: Just copy and paste for your own Fun Pool Use. Or to see if you can beat me. IF YOU SEE I MADE A MIS-COPY OF THE GAMES AND TIMES FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME AND TELL ME I GOOFED.
