REMEMBER: EARLY GAME SUNDAY 9:30 am SUNDAY! We got to see a little better glimpse to the what the season may hold. There were a lot of key injuries, this week. For the most part we will have to see how long these key players are out. We know Big Ben Roethlisberger is expected to be out for 4 to 6 weeks. The question here is does does Michael Vick still have enough left in his tank to keep the the Steelers on the winning track. For Seattle will Marshawn Lynch heal enough to his old effective running self. On another note: We saw the Colts punter, Pat McAffee, turn a bad snap into a credible scurry for first down. It appeared he could have run the ball in for a TD. However; not a role he is used to playing, he perhaps, failed to see that opportunity. (Or maybe he just ran out of gas). But, now is the seed planted for a planned play like this to come about? As for my week’s picks I missed 25% of the games. THAT SUCKS. But now I guess it leaves me room for improvement. What pitiful week I had. Just proves why they play the games. I used the numbers, and look at my poor score. Had I went with my gut instinct, I would have had only a slightly better week. Oh well, this is just for fun. (YEAH RIGHT) I hope you all did better. Of course if you are also playing a yearly pool….a week like this can really take a toll. I was pleased with my picks, this week. The first week is usually the hardest. It is the first time we actually see the teams play. Several star players were injured; some will miss multiple games, some were merely out for the remainder of the game. We saw the great Marshawn Lynch. stopped in a crucial play. I must say I was somewhat surprised by my own results this week. Just in: Buffalo Bills coach DOUG MARRONE has opted out of his contract. The out clause was activated by he sale of the team. Could a short hop to the N.Y. Jets be in order? Now we are at the CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES. “SUPER BOWL”. Last weeks HIGHLIGHTS: Houston’s J.J. Watt, became the only 2 time player to record 20 sacks in a season. To top it off his 20th sack also scored a SAFETY. Tampa Bay Buccaneers “won” the first pick for next years draft. Both Tennessee Titans, and Tampa Bay tied with a 2-14 record. HOWEVER the tie breaker ( whichever team whose opponents had the lowest winning percentage) favored the Bucs. Miami Dolphins Lamar Miller carried the ball from the 3 yd. line for a 97 yard TD. and cap 1000 yard season. Longest run was in 1983 when Cowboy TONY DORSETT, ran 99 yds. Following Dorsett is Green Bay Packers’ RB Ahman Green. Green ran a 98 yd. TD in 2003. In 1939 Packer Andy Urham also ran a 97 yd. TD. As of this writing, we know of 4 coaches who have been relieved of duty. First is the Jets’ Rex Ryan. Ryan has not finished above 500 the last 4 seasons. Will he land at Chicago? Atlanta Coach Mike Smith is looking for another job. Smith went 10-22 the last 2 seasons, and was 1-4 in post season. Chicago Bears’ Coach Marc Trestman, with a 5-11 season is out. So is Bears’ GM Phil Emery. I think this is a much needed move. I think, there should be more releases up the ladder. Jay Cutler took the blame much of the season for the Bears poor performance. However in all the games I watched the ENTIRE TEAM, Seemed somewhat amiss. I saw no real heart in their actions on the field. I’m not saying Cutler is the caliber player he is being paid as…. BUT I would most likely give him another year under new leadership. Then we come to San Francisco 49’ers. Will they be able to replace Jim Harbaugh. Probably not. But, the way I see it. Winning is secondary to 49’ers management. Much like the Indianapolis Colts when Jim Irsay took over. Irsay wanted to tell the coaches who to play what plays to run, etc. etc. It wasn’t until he learned to trust his coaching staff that the Colts started to do any good. I believe San Francisco’s management staff have yet to learn that lesson. AND we all know JIM HARBAUGH is no YES MAN! GOOD LUCK AT MICHIGAN COACH HARBAUGH. One last note. WHOA! What a week. I always hate this time of the season. You never know if a team will play to win, or to rest players. It appeared this week most teams played for the win. I would suspect that most teams will play to win this week. The closeness of so many teams much weighs heavy on them this week. Although I don’t like it. I think it is right. We could see an 11+ team not reach the play offs; and a possible 8- team in. To me; it does show parity in the conferences, (not necessarily in the leagues). Some of you may think a re-alignment is in order. But, then, maybe two years down the road the weaker teams get stronger and the strong teams get weaker. Then what? Re-align again. No! I believe it will work out in the long run. Just another week. A surprisingly good game was the Jaguars win over the Giants. An expected close game but I was a little taken aback by the defeat of the Giants. Wasn’t it the Buccaneers who had 12 men on the field to rob themselves of a FG which would have given them a huge upset of the Bengals ? One standout point was the fact we had 5 games decided by a FG or less. At long last I had a pretty good week. The Bengals game was one where I was torn between the numbers and what I actually thought. But the numbers said different. But that was only 1 point. Cleveland Vs. Atlanta was a real toss up for me. But ,again that was only 2 points. Poor MARSHAWN LYNCH! If he doesn’t speak to the press, he gets fined. If he does speak he is criticized. He is a MAN who does his talking on the “field of battle”. Yes. I know it is part of the business, that he may have to talk to the press. BUT; some people are really uncomfortable speaking in public. I can sympathize with this feeling. When I was 15 I started as a radio announcer/engineer. I was always complimented on my broadcasts. HOWEVER, I could not say a word straight if someone was watching me. If we had station visitors, I would have to pull the blind to my studio. I did my job. I entertained people. (As long as I was just a voice. Not if I was a visible image). Marshawn Lynch does his job. He is a very strong, and exceptional FOOTBALL PLAYER. Some people crave the spotlight. People like Mr. Lynch, prefer to have the spotlight put ON THE TEAM. Leave him alone. Saints Vs Ravens was anyones call. The big SURPRISE for me; as I am sure anyone else’s was the total UpSeT, the RAIDERS pulled off which cost me 10 POINTS.
