NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS WEEK 1 NFL 09/09-12-13/2021

Welcome to our 10 th year doing these Confident picks. VIKINGS:  Hall of Fame member. and Nebraska graduate Mick Tinglelhoff  died Saturday at age 81.  Tinglehoff played 17 years with the Vikings, starting 240 straight games, made 6 Pro Bowls,(1964-1969,) and 5 All Pro selection, (1964,65,66,68,and 69.  He was a member of the 1969 NFL Champion Team.      BUCCANEERS: Center Ryan Jensen draws 1st penalty for “TAUNTING”   Recipient of the TAUNT,  was Cowboys, DL Carolos Watkins.  Watkins slapped Jensen in the facemask (after the play), and got a penalty of his own.  It was whatever Jensen said to Watkins after the slap, that drew the “taunting penalty” ,  Sounds like a bad call to me.   Looked like Watkins was the one doing the taunting.  Any red blooded athlete would say somethng to his attacker.      DOES this put him in the “RECORDS BOOK”? STEELERS:  SIGN CONTRACT WITH PR, (Pass Rusher) T.J.(Watt to a four-year extension worth over  $112 million with $80 million of it guaranteed at signing. UPDATE: Week 15, two of five designated matchups will be played on Saturday with the remainder to be played on Sunday. Specific dates and start times for such designated Week 15 matchups will be determined and announced no later than four weeks prior to game day.  Week 18, two games will be played on Saturday, one at 4:30 PM ET and one at 8:15 PM ET with the remainder to be played on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM ET and 4:25 PM ET, and one matchup to be played on Sunday night at 8:20 PM ET. Specific dates and start times for Week 18 matchups will be determined and announced following the conclusion of Week 17. We probably will see several records toppled this season.  How will the NFL handle this?  With an extra game, beginning this season, means 1 more game to surpass records set by the likes of :  Manning’s 5,477 yards. Manning’s 55 touchdowns.   Brees’ 471 completions.                  Dickerson’s 2,105 yards, Chris Johnson’s 2,509 scrimmage yards.                                              Calvin Johnson’s 1,964 receiving  yards. Thomas’ 149 receptions. Strahan’s 22.5 sacks.   Akers’ 166 points.   Luck’s 4,374 yards. PERSONAL NOTE:  I still think the Colts erred by signing Carson Wentz.  If he stays healthy, I may be wrong,  But old habits are hard to break, and I think he will struggle correcting these.  Maybe the Colts coaching staff, have or will, succeed in breaking him of those bad habits.  I hope i am wrong.  (Except this week).  You regular readers are aware, I am a big Russell Wilson backer.  Regardless of what team he plays for.  If you are only wanting the pick sheet just scroll down. Here are the new rules for 2021 as I understand them at this time: 1. Eliminate overtime in the preseason This one is self-explanatory. Any of the (now) three preseason games that end in a tie score will remain a tie. Previously, overtime rules in the preseason were the same as regular season rules. Regular season overtime will remain untouched, but there will be no overtime in the preseason anymore. So much for this rule, as preseason is over. 2. Establishes maximum number of players in the “setup zone” during a free kick (kickoff) This is a bit of an unknown rule, but in 2020, teams that received a kick had to have at least eight players lined up in what they called the “setup zone” up until the moment the ball is kicked. For the receiving team, this “setup zone” is the space between 10 yards in front of the teed ball (the restraining line) and 15 yards in front of that. So if the ball is teed up at the 35-yard line (as usual on a kickoff), eight players on the receiving team had to be set up between the opponent’s 45-yard line and their own 40-yard line. Here’s how it looked last year: The rule change is simple. Prior to this rule change, eight was the minimum amount of players in this setup zone, but there was no maximum. Now there is a maximum of nine, meaning there needs to be at least two players outside of this zone for the receiving team. Why? Well, the reason is simply listed as “Provides excitement and competition.” The real reason likely has to do with low conversion rates of onside kicks. Previously, teams would crowd this zone with at least 10 players to recover an onside kick. For example: This is now an illegal formation. Two players will have to be beyond the 40-yard line, leaving fewer players on the receiving team to recover an onside kick. 3. Replay officials can now provide certain objective information to on-field officials The NFL didn’t fully adopt a “sky judge” this time around but this was a bit of a compromise. Now the officials in charge of replay can assist on the following new rule applications without the need for a challenge: Possession of the ball Completed or incomplete pass Touching of a loose ball, boundary line, goal line, or end line Spot of the ball/player in relation to sidelines, line of scrimmage line to gain, or goal line Down by contact (when not ruled down on the field) These issues can still be challenged by a team, but now the on-field officials can consult with replay officials if there is a “clear and obvious” issue with the call on the field. 4. Ensure the enforcement of all penalties committed by either team on extra point/two-point conversion attempts This rule simply adds these words to an already existing rule (new part is bolded): If a foul results in a retry, Team A will have the option to enforce the penalty from the spot where it attempted the try (previous spot) or from the yard line for the other try option, the location of… Continue reading NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS WEEK 1 NFL 09/09-12-13/2021
