2019 MARCH MADNESS PICK SHEETS , UPDATES AND OCCASIONAL OPINION

WELCOME TO YOUR 2019 NCAA TOURNAMENT HEADQUARTERS VIRGINIA YOUR 2019 NCAA CHAMPION.  WITH OT VICTORY.   VIRGINIA 85  TEXAS TECH 77 I am not sure how many years we have been doing this BUT counting pre blog days… It has been 28 years.  Most of those have been over the internet For all the Auburn fans and MEDIA PEOPLE who call that last foul as QUESTIONABLE (?)   Let  me tell you  THERE WAS NO QUESTION to it.  IT was definitely a foul !!  The defender JUMPED into the shooter.  That is a foul all day long.  As to the missed double dribble call.   THAT was just that a missed call in a crucial game; at a crucial time.  But it is one of those things I didn’t pick it up until the replay.  The commentators, and most anyone would miss it.   Unfortunate?  YES.  But that game was  moving at a quick pace.  Think of all the rules a referee has to look for.  Take that times 10 athletes.  I am sure the officials were looking more for contact,  than a rare ball handling miscue.  After all remember the rules have changed so much over the years.  They let them get by with palming the ball, (turning the ball over in their hands,  OFFENSIVE can legally GOAL TEND,  but Defense is not allowed to defend in like manner. THEY call it DUNKING THE BALL.  Any time the hand is in the imaginary circle immediately above the rim THAT IS GOAL TENDING.  They rarely call travel, and I can’t count the times i have seen this violation,  (it also occurs when one palms the ball).  They are getting better about watching the three second lane violation; but it still happens.  I saw one instance of kicking the ball not called.  Because apparently they changed that rule also.  Time was any time the ball hit your foot it was kicking the ball.  Apparently now it has to be deemed INTENTIONAL. Basketball used to be a no contact sport.  Not so much anymore National Championship  Minneapolis  April 8 CBS Virginia Vs  Texas Tech  20:30 This is where you can print your “OFFICE POOL” Bracket, Check the scores, etc. Yes I will have “MY PICKS” so you can compare your picks to mine. (And Laugh or Cry)I will have A “MASTER BRACKET”,  “WHAT IF YOU CHOSE THE HIGH PICKS”  for each game.  Yes I will have MY PICKS. .An “UPSET” will be RED on “ALL HIGH PICKS”  Bracket.  GREEN indicate HIGH SEED Win What is a seed?  Merely a starting place.  Although unlikely, IT is possible for two 16 seeds to meet in the final game.  Would lets say Michigan St  were to be seeded as a number 16.  They would still have  to win all games to be CHAMPION ! SEEDING attempts to give a more favored team an easier path to the CHAMPIONSHIP.  Seeding should lead to  the best 2 teams playing in the final game.  However there  is always that upset minded team;  or  the chance that the favored team has a bad game, a stand out player is sick or injured. To  print BRACKET:  HOVER OVER SHEET.  You will see a window at bottom with an arrow pointing down (second from right).  Click this button.  It will open a new window with the bracket then click the printer icon or go to file,  and PRINT. TO Enlarge each sheet: Hover over and select the square on the far bottom RIGHT.  To return to PAGE  Repeat. TORNADO SEASON IS UPON US : Safety Tips

“TORNADO – Safety Tips” Before a Tornado: Have a family tornado plan in place and practice a family tornado   drill at least once a year. Have a pre-determined place to meet after a disaster. Learn the signs of a tornado: dark, greenish sky; large hail; dark, low clouds; and loud roaring sounds.. When a tornado watch is issued, practice your drill and check your safety supplies. Increase your situational awareness by monitoring the weather on weather.gov, watching local TV, or listening to NOAA Weather Radio. Flying debris is the greatest danger in tornadoes; so store protective coverings (e.g., mattress, sleeping bags, thick blankets, etc) in or next to your shelter space, ready to use on a few seconds notice. Tornado rule of thumb: Put as many walls and floors between you and the tornado as possible! If you are planning to build a house, consider an underground tornado shelter or an interior “safe room” In a mobile home: GET OUT! Go to a neighbors, underground shelter, or a nearby permanent structure. Most tornadoes can destroy even tied-down mobile homes. During a Tornado: Wear a bicycle or motorcycle helmet to protect your head and neck or cover your head with a thick book. In a house with a basement: Avoid windows. Get in the basement and under some type of sturdy protection (heavy table or work bench), or cover yourself with a mattress or sleeping bag. Know where very heavy objects rest on the floor above (pianos, refrigerators, waterbeds, etc.) and do not go under them. They may fall down through a weakened floor and crush you. In a house without a basement, a dorm, or an apartment: Avoid windows. Go to the lowest floor, in a small interior room (like a bathroom or closet), under a stairwell, or in an interior hallway with no windows. Crouch as low as possible to the floor, facing down. A bath tub may offer a shell of partial protection. Even in an interior room, you should cover yourself with some sort of thick padding (mattress, blankets, etc.), to protect against falling debris in case the roof and ceiling fail. In a car or truck: If you are caught by extreme winds or flying debris, park the car as quickly and safely as possible – out of the traffic lanes. Stay in the car with the seat belt on. Put your head down below the windows; cover your head with your hands and a blanket, coat, or other cushion if possible. If you can safely get noticeably lower than the level of the roadway, leave your car and lie in that area. Avoid seeking shelter under bridges. In the open outdoors: lie flat and face-down on low ground, protecting the back of your head with your arms. Get as far away from trees and cars as you can. After a Tornado: Remain calm and alert, and listen to the radio or TV for instructions from authorities. Keep your family together and wait for emergency personnel to arrive. Carefully render aid to those who are injured. Stay away from downed power lines. Watch your step to avoid broken glass, nails, and other sharp objects. Stay out of any heavily damaged houses or buildings. Do not use matches or lighters, there might be leaking natural gas pipes or fuel tanks nearby.   Preparedness is the answer;   STAY CALM and follow your emergency plans.                       “BE AWARE – BE PREPARED – MAKE A KIT” “Don’t Be Scared… Be Prepared” Remember:  Being prepared starts at home: Don’t fall into the false sense of security that when bad things happen – it will always happen to the “other guy” or, “that will never happen to me”!  BE PREPARED, some day YOU may be the “OTHER GUY”!!     Views: 135

THE WALL, GUN CONTROL AND OTHER THINGS

I must apologize.  With TAX season upon us; I got busy and didn’t realize my hosting fee was due.  SORRY about that.  But we are up and running again. Let me begin by re-affirming. I AM NEITHER A REPUBLICAN NOR DEMOCRAT. I FEEL THERE IS NO ROOM FOR POLITICS IN GOVERNMENT. Recent events have shown WHY I have this belief. Was Donald Trump my first choice for President of United States. NO! However given the choice between Mr. Trump and Hillary Clinton ( a proven anti American candidate), there was little choice. I figure women voted for her because of their desire to have a WOMAN President. Then you have those people (of both parties) Who will vote for a candidate because he/she is of a certain party. If Hitler were alive and nominated for a political office there is NO doubt he would get the vote of those hard line PARTY MEMBERS. I do not think Donald Trump believed he had a chance to become President. And was really taken off guard when he got the nomination and then actually WON. Had the democratic party chosen an able candidate I may have voted for that one. However given the record of Barack Obama, IT would have been difficult to justify any DEMOCRATIC candidate.. I could write volumes about how Obama wasted eight years of being a very powerful person. (I did like that he appeared to to LOVE basketball). I could also fill volumes of why I feel Ms. Clinton is anti-American. Let me say that I was no fan of Republican Ronald Reagan, or H.W. Bush. Now on to my POST. As I see it TOO MANY OF YOU HAVE BECOME FOLLOWERS. You will sit there and watch a speech or a video account of something and RATHER, Than believe what YOU hear or see. YOU believe the editorialized version you receive from the MEDIA. We have so few NEWS “REPORTERS”. What we have are…” NEWS EDITORIALIZERS” They do not “REPORT NEWS” . THEY merely give you their version. (Or their boss”s version). I have seen many LIVE speeches given by Mr. Trump. Only to see the news version which has been edited. Omitting even a word or two can change the entire meaning. This is one trick they use to convince you to believe their way. I find it hard to believe the majority of DEMOCRATS are being truly represented by the people they elected. (Some Republicans are the same). It just seems that the DEMOCRATS now in office have no LOGICAL THINKING ABILITY. (I am one who relies on LOGIC more than not.   Let us look upon Nancy Pelosi. A person totally void of LOGIC. I know for a fact that Mr. Trump tried in earnest to negotiate with her on the wall deal. But Pelosi (being one minded), refused to try to negotiate. (NEGOTIATE: TO DEAL OR BARGAIN WITH ANOTHER OR OTHERS IN THE PREPARATION OF A TREATY OR CONTRACTIN PRELIMINARIES TO A BUSINESS DEAL). Example: If you are wanting a raise in wages. Say you are really wanting a dollar an hour raise, or if on salary you want a $5000 a year raise. Do you go to your boss and say I want a dollar an hour more. He will com back and say I will give you a quarter and hour and somehow you reach an agreement between his offer of a quarter and your asking one dollar. No you go in and ask for say $2 an hour raise through negotiation you agree to the dollar raise ( or near it), you get your raise the boss feels he has saved $1 an hour. You both are pleased. BUT If you go to the boss and say I want to negotiate a raise. The boss says NO I won’t discuss a raise. Thus you have no negotiations. That is exactly what Ms Pelosi told Mr. Trump. So he did what you and I would do and walked out.   Ms. Pelosi has her own agenda and thinks she is the sole charge of USA. An ego trip if you will. She is not interested in representing the majority of democrats, She is merely trying to make a name for herself. The name she is making I personally would hate to have. I know MANY Democrats whho have tuned her out and are ashamed to admit they are Democrats. People who have been Democrats for SIXTY to SEVENTY years.   Now let’s move to this wall thing. Jim Acosta a CNN reporter was walking along a portion of wall and telling everyone the wall was not needed. After all the businesses behind that wall were all doing well and no trouble with people illegally crossing ACCROSS the border. FROM BEHIND THE WALL.. Did you see the interview of the tthree ranchers whose ranches are along the border? One rancher tells of 2 million illegal crossings on his property and tearing down his fences. (I think that number could have been stretched a little), BUT they are entering our country illegally.. Another tells of 38 trucks coming across with illegal guns to be sold in our USA. Another tells of truckloads of drugs crossing onto his ranch. The third tells of even more truckloads of drugs, crossing over his ranch.   Ms. Pelosi and her comrade Schumer seem to go blind to these things. She claims we need “MORE GUN CONTROLS”; BUT ! Pretends there are illegal guns coming ILLEGALLY, into the USA.. Not to mention, in this day of “IDENTITY THEFT, HOW many of these illegal trespassers are using good citizens identities to obtain “ LEGAL GUNS”.   As to PRESIDENT TRUMP stating he could have not used his power to accelerate the building of the WALL, (I personally don’t like the idea of a wall ….BUT). To delay the inevitable is like shutting the barn door after the horse is out. Lets curb these illegal activities as quickly as… Continue reading THE WALL, GUN CONTROL AND OTHER THINGS

NFL DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND CONFIDENCE PICKS 01/20/2019

SEVENTEEN weeks; FIFTEEN   OTs . 9   BELOW is a link to the NFL rule changes for 2018 https://fromthemiddle.blog/2018/09/12/new-nfl-rules-for-2018/ For those of you who do not know how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. If we were playing an office pool,(which we ARE NOT).  The object is to score the most points. To obtain the score YOU rank the teams by how confident you are a team will win its game.  EXAMPLE:  Say this week we have 16 games.  The team you are most confident will win you would assign the number 16 and follow down to the team you are least confident in and assign that number 1.   You add up the TOTAL CORRECT PICKS.. That would be your score.  We use the Monday night (Last game played) as a TIE BREAKER.  The tie is broken by the closest to the total (that is the COMBINED score of the two participating teams) final score, without going over. If we were playing this is how my sheet would look;  My pick will be in bold Capital letters.  you can use circling, underlining, or highlighting.  I will show my correct points in Bold YOU can adopt the scoring  described above.  Or, the optional method.  A  negative score for missed games.  We will continue to get a positive score for correct predictions.  EXAMPLE:   if you scored          1 pt on the first game and you had 15 pts on the second game and lost you would still have a 1 on regular scoring.  1.  HOWEVER. with the same scenario new scoring system would result with a –14 score. NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS WEEK 15 12/13,15,16,17/2018

Welcome to our 6th year of NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS  !!!!! This also marks the 99th SEASON OF THE NFL!! QUESTION: How many of you would have thought with TWO (2) weeks to go in the regular season the CLEVELAND BROWNS, would still have  a shot at the playoffs? From the reviews of  several BOTCHED CALLS Thursday night it would be difficult to actually call a DEFINITE winner in the game.  Those calls or non calls could have had an effect or no effect on the game. There was definitely a helmet to helmet hit by KC. (No call).  There was DEFINITELY NO CONTACT on the Chargers TD attempt by Williams. BUT there was a botched call there.  There were several other questionable calls.  One can never be sure just what the effect it could be. I am not sure of the ratio of bad calls or botched calls on both teams.  Maybe it would even out in the end.   But in the end the Chargers came away  with the “W”.   RE:  The supposedly missed call in Monday Nights game.  In which SEATTLE’S  BOBBY WAGNER leaped over his team mates to block the FIELD GOAL ATTEMPT, by the VIKINGS.THE NO CALL WAS CORRECT.  If you watch a rerun, and read the rule below you will see there was NO PROPULSION HIGHER.  His head was no higher than if he was standing erect (maybe on his toes), but there would be no disputable proof of infraction  of the ‘LEAPING RULE” LEAPING RULE: An unsportsmanlike penalty called when a player, who is no7t within 1-yard of the line of scrimmage, running forward and jumping or using a teammate as a launching point to propel higher and block a kick.  The resulting penalty is 15-yards and an automatic first down for the offense, or if the extra point or field goal is good then the penalty is assessed on the ensuing kickoff. ONCE AGAIN.  NFL showed they don’t know how to interpret their OWN rules.  Regardless of how the above rule is stated.  They managed to twist to say there should have been a call.  JUST Shows how little they know.  Like NASCAR. NFL interprets their rules as they want on a case to case basis. Merely another reason to stop watching, and patronizing them.  ONE of the reasons after many years I ceased watching NASCAR.  But as I was told at one of my jobs. “These are  OUR RULES, we will interpret them how we want when we want”.  Mobile users:  To see entire post;  SCROLL TO BOTTOM OF PAGE AND SELECT “MOBILE..”. NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS WEEK 14 12/06,09,10/2018

Welcome to our 6th year of NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS  !!!!! This also marks the 99th SEASON OF THE NFL!! I have a confession:  I prematurely POSTED the PATRIOTS as the winner of their game with the DOLPHINS.  Who? Would think the DOLPHINS would be able to cover 69 yards in 7 seconds.  Hats off to the DOLPHINS, and their fans.   BY THE WAY.  I have to wonder how many of the LOYAL DOLPHIN FANS either left the game before that GAME WINNING PLAY, or turned the game off. Welcome to our 6th year of NFL CONFIDENCE PICKS  !!!!! This also marks the 99th SEASON OF THE NFL!! WHAT a Monday Night Game.  I thought it would be a high scoring game; little did I think between these two teams (Number One RAMS and number 6 Chiefs), would score  a combined 105 pts.  Also being that close (54-51).  Usually in HIGH SCORING GAMES it leans toward a lopsided score.  I would think think the TIME ON FIELD for BOTH teams Offense and Defense must have been low. (DEFENSE)?  Early Games This Week.  First game at 12:30 Thursday.  Second at 16:30. Third at 20:20 Will the Cleveland BROWNS tie an NFL RECORD Sunday?    Which was set by the Detroit LIONS from 2007-2010.  A record they could break next week at HOUSTON.  IF the BROWNS LOSE   to INTRASTATE   Cincinnati BENGALS it will mark their  26th    consecutive ROAD LOSS.  Should I wish them GOOD LUCK?   YES.  Good Luck if they tie the record, or GOOD LUCK, if they WIN, and keep from tying that record.     (Their last win was a 33-30 OT win was in week 5 of 2015 over the Buffalo BILLS).                            The answer is no!   The Browns ended their Record tying streak by outscoring the BENGALS (on the Bengals home field)   35-20.      Patriot QB Tom Brady SURPASSED Peyton Manning’s PASSING YARDS RECORD.  It took him EIGHT games more.  Manning had 79.279 passing yard in 293 games (regular season and playoff games).   Brady now has 79,416 combined passing yards.  Which leads us to the question “will Brees play long enough after Brady’s retirement to break his record whatever that will be. As a side note Brady is the first QB to have at least 26 wins against 2 teams.  His victory over the Jets was his 26th,  he also has 29 wins over the Buffalo Bills. (Green Bay’s Brett Favre had 26 wins against the Detroit Lions, and 23 wins over the Chicago Bears) However hot on his tail in 3rd place is Saints  Drew Brees with 77,716 total passing yards Brady also has the most combined Rushing and Passing yards with 80,000.  (More than any other player).   Mobile users:  To see entire post;  SCROLL TO BOTTOM OF PAGE AND SELECT “MOBILE..”. Eleven weeks; TEN  OTs .  Did we have that many for the whole season last year. For the first time we have less OTs THAN weeks.   Is it because of the rule changes or are we seeing more parity in the league. BELOW is a link to the NFL rule changes for 2018 https://fromthemiddle.blog/2018/09/12/new-nfl-rules-for-2018/   BELOW  is a link to to explanation of FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING https://fromthemiddle.blog/2018/10/16/nfl-flexible-scheduling-explained/   For those of you who do not know how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. I will fill in my picks Thursday.  Until then feel free to: Just copy and paste for your own Fun Pool Use.  Or to see if you can beat me.
