At long last I had a pretty good week. The Bengals game was one where I was torn between the numbers and what I actually thought. But the numbers said different. But that was only 1 point. Cleveland Vs. Atlanta was a real toss up for me. But ,again that was only 2 points. Poor MARSHAWN LYNCH! If he doesn’t speak to the press, he gets fined. If he does speak he is criticized. He is a MAN who does his talking on the “field of battle”. Yes. I know it is part of the business, that he may have to talk to the press. BUT; some people are really uncomfortable speaking in public. I can sympathize with this feeling. When I was 15 I started as a radio announcer/engineer. I was always complimented on my broadcasts. HOWEVER, I could not say a word straight if someone was watching me. If we had station visitors, I would have to pull the blind to my studio. I did my job. I entertained people. (As long as I was just a voice. Not if I was a visible image). Marshawn Lynch does his job. He is a very strong, and exceptional FOOTBALL PLAYER. Some people crave the spotlight. People like Mr. Lynch, prefer to have the spotlight put ON THE TEAM. Leave him alone. Saints Vs Ravens was anyones call. I am left with three questions after this week’s games. 1. Have the bears lost confidence in Jay Cutler OR have they lost confidence in the whole team. Cutler keeps getting the brunt of the criticism; but in all fairness the ENTIRE team is really playing badly. What to do about a team like this? 1. If the QB is the problem oust him. 2. Maybe the coach? Put him out to pasture. OR, just maybe, it lies in upper management. Well we all know that is not even a probable, MANAGEMENT is never to blame. 2. Is Peyton Manning more driven by RECORDS and his legacy than his own team. Example: Manning stayed in the game when a perfect opportunity for his backup QB to get some real game snaps. WHAT happens if Manning gets injured and has to miss games? The BACKUP QB becomes the starting, or finishing QB without any real game experience. I ask you Is Manning being a TEAM player in this instance or just being selfish and padding his record. 3. Why did the Packers not let Aaron Rodgers SET a Record? He needed just two TD Passes in the second half to set the record for single game TD Passes. But Packers Coach Mike McCarthy decided to bench him most of that second half. Things like this bring to mind the year the Colts of Indianapolis THREW a game when they had a chance to ACHIEVE A PERFECT SEASON!!!, You thought I had forgotten that one didn’t you. We had a few odd things this past week. We saw a defensive player JUMP the gun and reach the QB. Before the SNAP. We saw a Coach fumble his attempt to throw a red challenge flag. I am sure there are more that I didn’t see, or may have confused with college games. Like, I remember seeing a tipped (pass or FG) attempt landing in the hands of an offensive player for a TD. (Guess I need to take notes; and not just rely on my memory). I forgot to mention “BEAST MODE”. Yes Lynch turned it on again. If you missed it, you wish you could have seen it. At the 5 yard line he is so mobbed by players it is a wonder he didn’t trip. But with the defense repelling him, and his team pushing, for all its worth, Lynch kept going across the goal line. WOW!! Was anyone else as surprised by the outcome of MONDAY nights game as I was? I suppose there will be some out there who actually thought Washington would beat Dallas, REALLY?? It made me think why this Colt McCoy, is a third stringer. Secondly why did the Redskins Senior VP of Communications Tony Wyllie pull him away from an interview. May be the Redskins didn’t want to give air time to a “THIRD STRINGER”, who just made the football community ask, “Why isn’t this guy getting more playing time”. Of course you have to admit either the REDSKIN defense was excellent; or the COWBOY Offensive line just SUCKED! UPDATE: In fairness to the VP of Communications for the REDSKINS. He says the reason for the intrusion of the interview was because, “McCoy was running late for the coaches post game talk”. I can buy that BUT…. I think that someone in Mr. Wylilie’s position, would have handled this differently. I, would have had someone with me to either explain the situation to the media, or go with the QB; to the meeting while I explained the situation. Unmarked Police Cars
Just a short post I just watched a video on YAHOO.com. I found extremely informative, and thought provoking. The video was of a man pulling over a Washington state police officer. Citing a State law which prohibits the use of UNMARKED POLICE VEHICLES being used as patrol cars. Stating that unmarked cars are usable in undercover investigations. The point that was brought up is…A citizen cannot know if he is being pulled over by an authorized police officer, or a stalker, or a serial killer. (to go from one comparison point to another). In the state i live in we have had numerous incidences, ( specially unescorted women), being pulled over by a predator, or cop want to be, by cars MARKED as police cars. Now you throw in the UNMARKED car issue. So how do you know if you should pull over. Just because a car has the lights, which can be bought by it seems anyone. You have seen them in movies, car shows,etc., doesn’t mean there is a rel reason, or a real cop behind the wheel. Yet if you don’t stop then you are accused of resisting a police officer. Pull over in a well lit public spot? I have been on roads where I might travel 30-40 miles before I find a spot like this. You know by this time if the cop is real he is going to have an army of fellow officers after me. I will be charged with fleeing law enforcement. We know we do have officers, though few in the overall number of police officers, who would fall in this category of predatory behavior. I do recall the times when a Town Clown, (town cop), would camp outside someones home and wait for them to leave so they could stop them for loud muffler violations. I know of a man who did drink too much, BUT city cops would wait about a block from the bar he visited and wait for him to leave. I knew they were waiting and told him to stay his regular time, but only drink Coke. He did. They pulled him over almost as soon as he pulled out of his parking spot. Ha! Ha! Joke was on them. Another time a friend of mine was 5 minutes from his house when pulled over. They gave him a breath test, and he passed it. They held him there for 20 minutes, by then the alcohol had apparently entered his blood stream and he failed. Off to jail. in our state we had a ,I think state police officer, who was convicted of murder 2 times. (Same Murder). Yet he was granted a 3rd trial, with the stipulation that the convicting evidence in the first 2 rials could not be used. Like I said these are hopefully few and far between. In closing I would like to go record as being a proponent for discontinuing use of unmarked patrol cars for police use. This I do in the name of Citizen Safety. That Is How I See It. Not a great week but good for me. Russell Wilson Set a record for Monday Night Football. AS A QB, rushed for 122 yards. I mention this because I read several other columns speaking of other records set, tied, or broken, but no mention of this feat. For me I found it amazingly entertaining. NFL Week 5 Confidence Picks Oct. 02-05-06,2014
Pretty much of a roller coaster ride this week. A lot of good games, and some blow outs. What is up with New England? Is Brady out of gas? Need a coaching change? Or do they just need time to reset. I guess we may find the answer in the next couple of weeks. On another note. I was pleased to learn the United States Government (FCC), has extricated itself from the business, of deciding whether a GAME, is blocked on TV, or not. I firmly believe it is a business decision on which the owners/players should decide. I can see both sides of the argument. Although some fans, Like me, can’t afford to go to the game, we do support OUR team by buying their branded garments, souvenirs, etc. Not to mention the tax we pay so they can essentially play in a really nice arena for nothing, and keep the revenue from ticket sales, and souvenirs, and a portion of the concession sales. Of course, I’m sure, the NFL will work this into the broadcast contracts at renewal time. I KNOW, our local station seems to always buy out the remaining seats. Which makes it a sell out , thus allowing them to air the game.
