This week we saw 2 OT games. I separated by a mere point, and 5 by a field goal; or less. My week was a wash out, only getting 61% of the games correct. However we did get a good opportunity to compare the two scoring options. With the POSITIVE system I scored a mere 52 points. But if you notice with the POSITIVE/NEGATIVE system I only scored 9 points. In conclusion I must say the POSITIVE/NEGATIVE system seems to be a really more competitive system. Which do you prefer? For those of you who do not know how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. If we were playing an office pool,(which we ARE NOT). The object is to score the most points. To obtain the score YOU rank the teams by how confident you are a team will win its game. EXAMPLE: Say this week we have 16 games. The team you are most confident will win you would assign the number 16 and follow down to the team you are least confident in and assign that number 1. We use the Monday night game as a TIE BREAKER. The tie is broke by the closest to the total (that is the COMBINED score of the two participating tams) final score, without going over. If we were playing this is how my sheet would look; My pick will be in bold Capital letters. you can use circling, underlining, or highlighting. I will show my correct points in Bold YOU can adopt the scoring described above. Or, the optional method. A negative score for missed games. We will continue to get a positive score for correct predictions. EXAMPLE: if you scored 1 pt on the first game and you had 15 pt on the second game and lost you would still have a Positive 1. HOWEVER. with the same scenario new scoring system would result with a -14 score. I will fill in my picks Thursday. Until then feel free to: Just copy and paste for your own Fun Pool Use. Or to see if you can beat me. IF YOU SEE I MADE A MISS COPY OF THE GAMES AND TIMES FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME AND TELL ME I GOOFED. I had some requests from the people who copy and paste, for their own pool to move the network out of the score column. I aim to please. So I hope this is better GOOD LUCK TO ALL. BYE WEEK: Atl. NFL Confidence Picks, Week 9 11/05-08-09/2015
Last week summary: I missed 3 games. I scored 86% of points under the positive only system, BUT; only 64% under the plus minus scoring system. which means I missed some of my high picks. (Actually only one High pick, and it was a surprise to me. HOWEVER; it was an overtime game. HOW did the Falcons, allow the Buccaneers, to stay close enough to to even put it in overtime). By the way the Colts lost in OT to the Panthers. That makes 2 OT games. Is it just me or are we really having more OT games this year? We saw 4 games with a mere FG as the difference. ONE of them with a combined 101 points, (the Giants with 49 and the Saints with 52). Kind of seems like both teams’ defense had the day off. ONE game, the Seahawks, Cowboys game was so close just 1 point separated them at the final whistle. For those of you who do not know how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. Only 3 games ended with a 3 point or less score. Washington Redskins, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers was a the only game with a mere point separating them. Although not perfect I will accept a week with 79% correct picks, and 80% of the total points available, as a pretty good week. How does that compare with your picks. NFL Confidence Picks, Week 7 10/22-25-26/2015
I had a really bad week, missing 6 games. We saw only 2 exciting games, both going into OT. The Bears and the Lions; and Broncos and Browns. Bear Vs Lions wasn’t too much of a surprise. Broncos and Browns was a big SURPRISE. We saw teams fall apart and lose big LEADS. The Seahawks once again blew a big lead. Hopefully they get their game back soon. There were some games which ended closer than they appeared during the course of the game. Seems some teams are getting a little overconfident when they have a good lead, meanwhile the other team is creeping up on them. Hopefully I will see a better week, and WE all get to see better games. One thing I have noticed over some period of time. “IF MY TEAM WINS, IT IS A GOOD GAME”. PROGRAMMING NOTE: THE 9:30 SUNDAY GAME WILL ALSO BE STREAMED ON YAHOO! For those of you who do not know how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. NFL Confidence Picks, Week 6 10/15-18-19/2015
An EXCITING week. 3 OVERTIME GAMES. 2 GAMES DECIDED BY ONE POINT. And 1 game by a field goal. As for my week kind of mediocre. Some would consider it good, in that I only missed 3 games. NFL Confidence Picks Week 4: 10/01-04-05/2015
REMEMBER: EARLY GAME SUNDAY 9:30 am SUNDAY! We got to see a little better glimpse to the what the season may hold. There were a lot of key injuries, this week. For the most part we will have to see how long these key players are out. We know Big Ben Roethlisberger is expected to be out for 4 to 6 weeks. The question here is does does Michael Vick still have enough left in his tank to keep the the Steelers on the winning track. For Seattle will Marshawn Lynch heal enough to his old effective running self. On another note: We saw the Colts punter, Pat McAffee, turn a bad snap into a credible scurry for first down. It appeared he could have run the ball in for a TD. However; not a role he is used to playing, he perhaps, failed to see that opportunity. (Or maybe he just ran out of gas). But, now is the seed planted for a planned play like this to come about? As for my week’s picks I missed 25% of the games. THAT SUCKS. But now I guess it leaves me room for improvement. Did any of you do any better? Either Point wise, or Percentage wise? For those of you who do not know how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. If we were playing an office pool,(which we ARE NOT). The object is to score the most points. To obtain the score YOU rank the teams by how confident you are a team will win its game. NFL Confidence Picks Week 3: 9/24-27-28/2015
What pitiful week I had. Just proves why they play the games. I used the numbers, and look at my poor score. Had I went with my gut instinct, I would have had only a slightly better week. Oh well, this is just for fun. (YEAH RIGHT) I hope you all did better. Of course if you are also playing a yearly pool….a week like this can really take a toll. It will take a lot of good weeks to make up for this one. But this last week does emphasize the difference in the two scoring system. With the +/– scoring system I only scored 12 points. Good luck this week. NFL Confidence Picks, Week 2 9/17-20-21/2015
I was pleased with my picks, this week. The first week is usually the hardest. It is the first time we actually see the teams play. Several star players were injured; some will miss multiple games, some were merely out for the remainder of the game. We saw the great Marshawn Lynch. stopped in a crucial play. The Giants coach lose track of opponents downs, and tell his team not to score. An apparent misunderstanding between the kicker, and coach in an OT situation. But all in all a pretty interesting week. With the headset controversy at the Patriots, game…..Well let me say it is getting hard to not to put the team from New England as the N.E. CHEATERS. After all we know, that must be in their NFL contract, a special clause. New England can do whatever they want. No harm will come to them. For those of you who do not know how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. If we were playing an office pool,(which we ARE NOT). The object is to score the most points. NCAA 2015 MARCH MADNESS
NCAA MARCH MADNESS TOURNAMENT. Right now it appears that Kentucky will receive the overall number one seed. Which guarantees them the easiest path to the final four. Here is where I make many of you mad. Might just as well get it out of the way right now. After careful consideration I predict KENTUCKY will be the first NUMBER ONE seed out. Kentucky is a good team and appears as of now they will go undefeated in regular season. But if you look at their schedule…..WHO have they played. A few teams that may be in the Tournament. But looking at their overall schedule, it has been pretty much of a soft schedule. In other years it could have been a tough schedule. But this year, well it was a disappointment. All teams have these years….maybe. But it may work out for them. While they have pretty much coasting, and other teams have been going toe to toe. They may be the most rested team entering the Tournament. Is it possible for a team with a losing record be in the BIG DANCE? Just ask MEAC Tournament Champion Hampton Pirates. With a 16-17 record. The answer is yes. Can they wear the Glass Slipper? What is a seed? Merely a starting place. Although unlikely, IT is possible for two 16 seeds to meet in the final game. Would lets say Kentucky were to be seeded as a number 16. They would still have to win all games to be CHAMPION ! OKAY. so I was wrong Villanova was first number 1 out. So That makes Kentucky 2nd Number 1 seed out. I called it right the second time!! Kentucky was the second number 1 out. They did play well. But their weak regular season schedule did not prepare them for the stronger teams. It took a last second desperation shot to overcome Notre Dame. But Wisconsin’s tough season made them ready. The behavior of the Kentucky “FANS” back in Kentucky I am sure did not reflect the feelings of the Wildcat Coaches and Players. However their acts do reflect back to them, the University, and The STATE. I still do not understand this type of childish behavior. It does not change the outcome of the game. Maybe “TOO Much ALCOHOL” is an excuse. But that would be all it was. NOT A REASON! Kentucky did make it a lot farther than I expected. Hats off to Kentucky Team for not quitting. Maybe next year (for a change) they will return with experienced players, and not have to rely on Freshmen. Here is to next year Kentucky. Season is over. Congratulations to DUKE. It is hard to say one bad call changes the outcome of a game. However a couple of bad calls and NO CALLS. Can alter a game. In what I saw was DUKE get more than their share the last 3 minutes of the game. I saw them commit charges that were mis -called BLOCKS. I saw Duke throw up there forearms to clear space. I really think the REFS let the game get out of control. Of course You can make the excuse that they were letting the teams play. HOWEVER, the Most Questionable Non Call was with about 2 minutes +/-. It was plenty obvious the Ball went out last touched by DUKE’s Winslow I think. I am not really good with names. But no one can say for sure if that really made a big difference, DOWN by 5. It would have given the BADGERS a chance to score and cut the lead by 2 or 3, (if they scored). This could have changed the momentum, or not. Who can say? But it is over no going back. I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT UNLIKE KENTUCKY, I SAW NO BEHAVIOR ON THE PART OF EITHER TEAMS FANS. (hope I’m not speaking too soon). But Hats off to them for showing maturity. Well THAT IS HOW I SEE IT. Check back for other articles throughout the year. Maybe some Public Service Announcements, or who knows what may strike my fancy. Maybe a few sports articles. but I Just have not been able to get into baseball since the strike which brought about the PED thing when they allowed Mark McGuire to hit those home runs to generate interest in the game. Just like the NBA let MJ get by with making his own rules to create interest in their arena. I can’t really call them sports any more. But will be back with our usual Football coverage.
