NFL Confidence Picks WEEK 14 12/07,10/11/ 2017

For those of you who do not know how confidence ranking works, let me explain. If we were playing an office pool,(which we ARE NOT).  The object is to score the most points. To obtain the score YOU rank the teams by how confident you are a team will win its game.  EXAMPLE:  Say this week we have 16 games.  The team you are most confident will win you would assign the number 16 and follow down to the team you are least confident in and assign that number 1.   We use the Monday night game(last game) as a TIE BREAKER.  The tie is broken by the closest to the total (that is the COMBINED score of the two participating teams) final score, without going over. If we were playing this is how my sheet would look;  My pick will be in bold Capital letters.  you can use circling, underlining, or highlighting.  I will show my correct points in Bold YOU can adopt the scoring  described above.  Or, the optional method.  A  negative score for missed games.  We will continue to get a positive score for correct predictions.  EXAMPLE:   if you scored 1 pt on the first game and you had 15 pts on the second game and lost you would still have a Positive 1.  HOWEVER. with the same scenario new scoring system would result with a -14 score. I will fill in my picks Thursday.  Until then feel free to: Just copy and paste for your own Fun Pool Use.  Or to see if you can beat me. RECAP: WEEK 16.  Let’s start with the biggest surprise.  Clevland Browns are no longer W-I-N-L-E-S-S!!!!  They took advantage of  the Raiders “safe mode”  to earn a 20-17 VICTORY.  Avoiding the shame of a winless season..   Once more we were treated to an OT game.  Played by the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills, with the Dolphin on top 34-21 ONE game was a single point separation.  The San Francisco took advantage of a player conservative game by a team  already in the playoffs.  With a 22-21 Victory over the Los Angeles Rams. ONE game by two points.  That being the Houston Texans win over the Bengals from Cincinnatti with a score 12-10. The only  game won by 3 points was settled with a 34-31 OT WIN Miami Dolphins, topping the BILLS OF Buffalo. FORthose of you who do not know how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. NFL Confidence Picks Week 7 10/20-23-24/2016

Just a word regarding the disrespect SOME “PRO” athletes are showing our COUNTRY.  We all have rules we follow at our work place.  We don’t always agree with.  But while at work we have to follow those rules.  What we do on our own time is up to us.  These ATHLETES, (Although they don’t like to think of it this way THEY are EMPLOYEES. THEY SHOULD FOLLOW RULES SET BY THEIR EMPLOYERS.   Actions of employees AT WORK, Reflect on the employer.  Thus if  a Pro Athlete, shows disrespect for the country,  apparently their EMPLOYER, must approve of the action and supports it.  If the  employee doesn’t  agree HE or SHE can take it up with their UNION.  Until an agrrement is reached the employee can either accept the rule, (for the time being), OR SUSPENDED WITHOUT PAY.  Now this is how things are handled in real life.  We must remember they do not live in the real world, (apparently).  So by allowing this show of disrespect must be condoned by OWNERS, AND SURE DO NOT DESERVE MY AMERICAN MONEY. I could list many, many times I have been on the losing end of DISCRIMINATION.  Some was due to government sanctions, and many more were due to BIGOTRY.  BUT never did I show disrespect for my COUNTRY. For those of you who do not know how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. We use the Monday night game as a TIE BREAKER.  The tie is broke by the closest to the total (that is the COMBINED score of the two participating tams) final score, without going over. FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING Allows teams to play their way onto the Sunday night schedule In 2006 the NFL implemented a primetime “flexible scheduling” element on Sundays in Weeks 10-15 and in Week 17. In 2014 that was extended so that games between Weeks 5 and 17 could be affected by flex scheduling. However, only two games may be flexed into Sunday Night between Week 5 and 10. Flexible scheduling ensured quality matchups on Sunday night in those weeks and gave surprise teams a chance to play their way onto primetime. The NBC Sunday night time slot for “flex” weeks lists the game tentatively scheduled for Sunday night. Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game will be moved to an afternoon start time. Flexible scheduling will not be applied to games airing on Thursday, Saturday or Monday nights. Just as the six major college football conferences have done for many years, the NFL has the flexibility to move the start times of games on Sundays, using a 12-day notice format. For example, a game scheduled for a Sunday could move from a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff to an 8:15 p.m. start, but the change would be made and announced no later than the prior Tuesday, 12 days prior. Sunday afternoon games, as in the past, can still be moved between 1:00 and 4:05 or 4:25 p.m. ET. In Week 17, in order to ensure a Sunday night game with playoff implications, the decision to move the start time may be made on six days notice. NFL Flexible Scheduling 101 Begins Sunday of Week 5 In effect during Weeks 5-17 Up to 2 games may be flexed into Sunday Night between Weeks 5-10 Only Sunday afternoon games are subject to being moved into the Sunday night window. The game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night during flex weeks will be listed at 8:15 p.m. ET. The majority of games on Sundays will be listed at 1:00 p.m. ET during flex weeks except for games played in Pacific or Mountain Time zones which will be listed at 4:05 or 4:15 p.m. ET. No impact on Thursday, Saturday or Monday night games. The NFL will decide (after consultation with CBS, FOX, NBC) and announce as early as possible the game being played at 8:15 p.m. ET. The announcement will come no later than 12 days prior to the game. The NFL may… Continue reading NFL Confidence Picks Week 7 10/20-23-24/2016

This That and the Other Thing

Today I will be talking about a few things.  Football, Politics, Basketbal, and anything else that pops into my mind. FOOTBALL:  Questions.  Will Peyton Retire?  YES! I believe he will retire.  But follow the lead of Jeff Saturday and retire as  a COLT. Will Johnny Manziel find a home?   Despite his intolerable behavior….I believe someone will find a spot for him.  JAMESIS WINSTON found a home,  DIDN’T he. What about Robert  Griffin III ?  I think he will land some where.  BUT as I wrote before his, Russel Wilson, and Andrew Luck’s drafting.  R.G.III needs to play behind a veteran for at least one or two years.  Then I think he will be ready.   POLITICS:  Same old thing.  people will elect another MULTI-MILLIONAIRE, who has no interest in the working people.  Right now it looks like our choice will be Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.   Before I move on let me remind you I do not affiliate with any party.  It is my belief THERE IS NO ROOM IN GOVERNMENT FOR PARTIES.    That said;  Donald Trump has set a precedent as one who will, if things get a little tough he will bail.  Just look how many times he has bailed out of businesses using  BANKRUPTCY!!!!   Hillary Clinton:  Don’t forget Who’s name was on NAFTA which sent and continues to send AMERICAN JOBS to another country.  CLINTON.  She has been caught in so many LIES already.  Yes I know  LYING is a politician’s pre-requisite.   As an INDEPENT VOTER I must say our choices get worse every election. Lastly. BASKETBALL: Thank goodness we have something to look forward to.  I will have your printable brackets, and updates for the NCAA Tournament.  This year is the first time in many years the Tournament looks wide open.  Every week we see I would say about 5 upsets.  Who will peak at just the right time, or have an outstanding game: or the worst game of their season. Yes I will have my selections, how you would do if you had picked the favored team,  AND the upset sheet which will highlight every upset for the Tourney. Time to go now. Talk to again.  Be sure to check back for my coverage of MARCH MADNESS. PS: I almost forgot. The Oscars.  As usual most all awards go to the least deserving.  I usually go to one movie a week,  and the movies I watched were MUCH better than the winners.  I truly believe the pre-reqisite for an Oscar is a bad job which needs the “MAGICAL ACADEMY AWARD”   to get a push. I won’t go through every award.  Let me just say BEST ACTOR:  DiCaprio???? Are you kidding.  He was a terrible actor as a child, and is still terrible.   The best movie he even came close to giving a really good performance was 14 years ago.  CATCH ME IF YOU CAN.  Sorry but that is truly the only movie I could call him creditable.  THE REVENANT was an interesting story.  But really a Chimpanzee could have turned in as good a performance. So as you can see they should have made a special category to score him as Oscar.  The category should have been  PARTICIPATION OSCAR.  Just as the little soccer players win or lose get a Participation trophy. PSS:  I forgot I wanted to mention the threat of the Louisiana Governor to do away with LSU Football.  We all know that LSU brings in a massive amount of money to the state for their football games.  To take away the financing would be a bigger blow to Louisiana’s economy than the program costs. That Is How I See It.           Views: 118

NFL Playoff Confidence Picks Week 2 Jan.16-17, 2016

I am going against my formula this week.  However, you will notice I am only putting an 1  confidence Rating.  Under my formula it would be a 2.  This year I am making a change in the scoring.  YOU can adopt the new scoring or continue to use the old scoring. This year we get a negative score for missed games.  We will continue to get a positive score for correct predictions.  EXAMPLE:  LAST YEAR if you scored 1 pt on the first game and you had 15 pt on the second game and was wrong you would still have a Positive 1.  HOWEVER. this year the same scenario would result with a -14 score. I will fill in my picks Friday.  Until then feel free to: Just copy and paste for your own Fun Pool Use.  Or to see if you can beat me. NFL Playoff Wild Card Confidence Picks Week 1 Jan.9-10,2016

Regular Season has ended.  Is it just me, or did this season seem to just fly by?  Maybe I was just having too much fun.  (Yeah, that’s it as many low spots, as I have had this year).  Like week 17, my gut was saying Seahawks over Cardinals.  But NO!  I went with the numbers.  Maybe there are times when one should listen to their gut. RECAP:  Two games were decided by 3 or less points.  Perhaps the biggest unexpected blow out WAS the Seattle Vs Arizona game.  I really expected it to be a close game. It’s a new season, now.  A fresh start for all teams.  Will the leaders continue, on there merry romp, or will they falter.  It appears Seattle is peaking at the right moment.  Will other teams begin their rise to the top? This year I am making a change in the scoring.  YOU can adopt the new scoring or continue to use the old scoring. This year we get a negative score for missed games.  We will continue to get a positive score for correct predictions.  EXAMPLE:  LAST YEAR if you scored 1 pt on the first game and you had 15 pt on the second game and was wrong you would still have a Positive 1.  HOWEVER. this year the same scenario would result with a -14 score. Confidence Picks, Week 15 12/17,19,20 /2015

RECAP: I see 2 games I considered upsets.  Raiders over Broncos and Steelers over Bengals.  NO OT games this week.  Games with a 3p  (FG) difference.  And we saw San Diego with a failed attempt to put the game into OT,  as they failed score with 2 seconds left a game an incomplete pass which would’ve ended the game was blown dead due to a false start moving them back to the 11 yd line.  Where the pass was incomplete to end the game. Two chances with 2 seconds and OT at hand the Chargers failed on both attempts. For those of you who do not know how confidence ranking goes, let me explain. NCAA Rule Changes For 2015 Season

This post will be short and to the point.  Maybe too short to get anyone’s attention. The NCAA is excited about their rule changes. One change is the elimination of the 5 second closely guarded rule.  I am not sure when they added the closely guarded rule.   But in the days of REAL BASKETBALL.  There was no such rule. Another change is the no touch rule.  EXCUSE me but that was a rule many years ago.  BASKETBALL, was meant to be a no contact sport.  I am not sure if they made a rule saying it was okay to grab and/or keep a hand on your opponent.  Or if they just decided not to enforce that rule.  Some of the rules they don’t enforce are  PALMING THE BALL, TRAVEL, and I cannot tell you how many times I have seen DOUBLE DRIBBLES.   They talk of how much more control the  players have of the ball as they come down the court.  Let me explain as many of you don’t know how the rules WERE.  Palming the ball is when the player puts his hand under the ball and turns it over as he dribbles.  Watch.  See how many times you see the players do this. You will see this when the ball handler is coming down the court, or executing a turn. Travel is anytime you make 2 steps while holding the ball.  You are (or should I say were) allowed to move one foot as long as your pivot foot stayed anchored.  If, for any reason your pivot foot moved,  even a little slide.  YOU TRAVELED. Double Dribble, Is anytime you either use both hands on the ball at the same time to dribble, or stop your dribble and then resume to dribble.  This infraction you will see most often when a player chases down a ball and may dribble it, until he clears the opposition.  He then will begin to dribble again. NOW, if only we could get them to enforce the GOAL TENDING rule.  For those of you who do not know the definition of GOAL TENDING, this is it.  GOAL TENDING:  When a players hand or any body part enters the extended area directly above the rim.  (As far as I know there is no height limit here it extends higher than any player could reach.  AS YOU can see a DUNK is a direct violation of this rule.  Any DUNK you will see the players hand is inside this extended area.  Now not only is this a violation of the rule, It gives the OFFENSIVE DUNKER  an unfair advantage.  You see as a defender CANNOT  put his hand in the area.  Besides how much skill does it take for these 6’10” – over 7′ players to achieve this,  They either don’t have to jump, or maybe a little hop.   IF they want to allow this it should only be worth a single point.  Due to the low skill level to accomplish this shot.  Maybe less,  perhaps a half point.  After all it takes more skill to sink a free throw which only gets 1 point. I know the thrill I felt when I dunked the ball, I never got called for it because if they watch me in warm up I could not touch the rim, (lead feet),  but with the adrenaline flowing during a close game, I could dunk the ball.  Go figure. That Is How I See It.       Views: 108

Proper Police Chase Procedure

I was recently listening to my home scanner. I heard a police chase in a neighboring county.  The officer was in pursuit of a motorcycle who was clocked at 103 mph.  Now normally the police turn on their sirens and lights and the chase is on.  I was not prepared for what happened next. The officer turned off his siren and lights,  slowed to a safe speed.  He then proceeded to radio ahead to officers on down the road.  The motorcycle was occupied by two people a man and a woman.  I don’t care who you are 103 mph on public roads is way too fast.  It is way, way to fast on a motorcycle, let alone with a passenger.  I know,  I have been guilty of doing 105 mph, with a passenger and pulling a trailer.  HOW DUMB WAS THAT?  (I was on a fairly un-busy interstate). But still a dumb thing to do.   Let’s face it we have seen enough motorcycle accidents with riders obeying the law.  Some to their  own fault, and others because of other driver’s errors.  But, factor in the increased speed, and you have really increased your chances of injury.  I don’t think I have to go into the obstacles that you can face which give you a problem at normal speed,  but at high speed even a lesser obstacle causes greater danger.  We don’t like a little gravel, or a pot hole,  even at 30 mph.  But imagine at 103 mph.  A normal curve in the road becomes a lot harder to negotiate at these speeds.  I remember seeing one rider on a very busy interstate loop around a city,  4 lanes wide,  he was riding in shorts, no shirt, and thongs, or as the younger people call them flip flops, on his feet.  Sounds like a newbie, right?  As if this was not bad enough he was texting on his phone,  at 85 mph. Back to the officer who chose to slow, and call ahead.  The offending rider was stopped in a town a few miles down the line, where he had slowed to the proper speed.  The stopping officer held him until the County Mountie, who had originated the call arrived, and proceeded to write the proper tickets. I applaud this officer, for his use of common sense.  Unlike many of his fellow officers he avoided putting himself and others in danger of a high speed chase.  The offending rider, according to the time from the officer backed off and the time to the town where he was stopped had apparently slowed his speed to a much safer one.  No one injured, no innocent people unnecessarily put in harm’s way. What I don’t understand is why more police do not exercise this same logical thought.  They have helicopters, and more technology to follow these people and end the chase with less mayhem.  In my state  it is illegal to have a scanner in your car unless you are a ham operator or a few other exceptions.  But I for one can attest to the fact had I been able to have a scanner in my car,  I could have reported the sighting of a car used in a robbery.  I seen the car operating a “little erratically”, not really badly.   I had my cell phone.  I could have called it in and directed the police to where we were.  Heck I could have followed him a little while.  But because it is illegal to have a scanner in my car,  I was home listening on my home scanner when I found out about the robbery and the car the police were looking for.  This is just another resource that could be available to police.   We all know the criminal doesn’t care if having a scanner is illegal. Kudos to the County Mountie for using PROPER CHASE PROCEDURE.  Even if it was not the prescribed procedure used by most police departments. That Is How I See It Views: 109
